I changed his background from 'Anchorage Veteran' to 'No-shit Police officer turned retired armyman'

The character
Nathaniel Irwin was born in 2037 and hails from Malden, Massachusetts. His elderly parents still live there and as an effort to help them, he moved to Cambridge, where he works at the local police department. Earlier, he was a US Army soldier before he got tired of the government's ways and handed in his retirement. He would have no objections against fighting in Anchorage, but to guard scientific projects? Not his appetite. He left the army just before his squadron was reassigned to Mariposa. He kept in contact with his former squadmates, some of them eventually visited him in Boston, even though it was the other end of the country. One of those nights, his friend took initiatative and introduced him to his future wife . The rest is history.
