From the same universe as Mecha ([link] and [link] ), created in the same line of battle-beast experiments known as Machinations.
Mecha was one of the last to be created in her branch of Machinations, but I shall not be putting her info here.
Beltane and Samhain, brother and sister, were built out of the genetic material of 'dog', since dogs already had the wide range of genes that allowed for so many breeds this new beast was relatively easy to build.

This breed, named Runners, later breaks of into Day Runners and Night Runners, these two, the first in the breed, are simply Runners, and are only kept as specimens for temperament, action and life research. Runners were created for their speed and agility and durability, physically they aren’t huge, about the size of a wolf hound, but they are able to chase down almost any prey. They are usually used in the police forces and to hunt enemies and deserters that may be fleeing the battle scene.

Like the other early experiments in Machinations the Runners have cybernetic parts, but unlike Mecha and her tail, on the Runner’s it can not been seen; the metallic in them being part of their hearts and lungs, allowing them to run much further and longer than other animals and many machines.

Beltane and Samhain escape only once from the Lab, and it is 10 years after they were created, during a parade, they were heading a small group of Night and Day Runners when they made a break for it, only to be caught, confused and disorientated, only a few miles away.

Their colours show the base for all Runners, most Day Runners are a very light tan, white or brown, Night Runners are deep blue/purple all over and/or patchy black and dark brown. Beltane is rather darker however and Samhain rather lighter.
