Brave, reserved, stubborn, sarcastic, humorous, quick-tempered and thoughtful.
Usually quiet and observant, Iraza is the type of leopard who prefers to stick to the shadows, avoiding attention from others with a vengeance. She has a quick temper- but also harbors a fierce determination to prove her worth to her pride as a result of the promise she made to her late sister.
Whilst not unapproachable, some find her difficult to read as Iraza has a tendency to shield her true thoughts with a mask of sarcasm. She can be humorous, and has more than enough patience to hold a grudge for several life-times- but is also thoughtful of those she respects.
Iraza is daring and brave, having been since her childhood. She is unafraid of calling out others who she disapproves of- and likewise is unafraid of the consequences that befall her actions.
History:
Fearless are fools, but cautious are the wise. With no pride to call home, Iraza was born to an exiled Usiku huntress. Bitter the leopardess was, for the limitless boundaries she broke laws for, were now hers eternally until evermore.
Iraza, the youngest of two, knew many tales of the prides. Of how selfishly they coveted the lands and its precious resources- rejecting her mother in her desperate time of need. Unwanted were her young, by both pride and mother.
The cub aged well in spite of these troubles, worrying not for the bones that haunted her figure, but for the thrill of the wind in her fur and the sand under her feet. Iraza loved her sister greatly and bled no sorrow or fear in her company.
While sisters through and through, they each were more different from one another than they had presumed to be. So much that they would learn and discover beside each other, that this did not often matter; but when it did count, Iraza learned to return her sister's growing competitiveness with sarcasm. It made her sister laugh, and she too would laugh, even if she was a reluctant opponent.
When the time came, Iraza and her sister left the safety of their mothers side in search of new stars and lands beyond those they called home. It was Iraza’s desire to forge her own path that brought them to chase antelope in the wild grasslands of the prairie; to follow the river's bend as far as it would take them. Scaring hyenas, stalking strange lone lions, testing the patience of meerkats, devil snakes and pranking the hippos… all the fun, danger and glory of the world that Iraza and her sister could find. They forged memories in stone that would withstand even the strongest of monsoons.
A time would come when Iraza could not predict what was next. They had seen much in their three years of life- but what would follow now?
It was then that her sister implored that they visit the tree of life- a story they had heard many times before, but not sought truth for themselves. Iraza obliged reluctantly. She had no desire to interact with any pride, but for the tree of life, perhaps the worth of a good story might outweigh the unpleasantries.
A good story and a magnificent sight it was, but Iraza found it’s worth to be tested when her sister began to make friends of the Usiku pride. A day stretched onto a week, and her sister pleaded for the month. Iraza gave her two weeks, and not a day more.
When the last sunrise came, her sister begged her to stay and join the pride with her. Angered and confused, Iraza could not convince her sister to come with her. She left for a few days, hoping that when she returned her cub-mate might see sense.
Alas, she returned to find that her sister seemed to not miss her at all. Iraza left with a familiar bitter taste in her gut. Unwanted again, but by the one she expected to want her most.
The leopardess cursed the Usiku pride and dreamed of memories in stone as she chased freedom from her pain and loneliness. The days seemed longer than ever without her sister, the sky? Starless- but Iraza convinced herself, prideless was the path she had chosen.
After many cold months alone, Iraza finally found another star to rest in her sky. A chaser of the wind, like herself- a mystery greater than she’d ever found before, but one who chose to face her instead of turning away.
A friend she called them hesitantly, secretly hoping for more. A sister, he called her. It stung, but lasted not for long as he stayed anyway and whispered of chasing hyenas and pranking hippos.
Months would go by, the bones of her figure no longer casting shadows. Healthier and happier than she had been for so long, there was one thing she began to regret more than anything, and one person she realised she missed more than she would admit. Reluctantly, she gave into her companions convincing, and parted ways for a time to visit her sister- promising to return to him when the time came.
A reunion did happen, and not mere minutes after, her sister was taken from her for good. Iraza found her sister alone and fighting an intruder for her life. A lion who sought to rip out the roots of the tree of life, but instead found the claws and teeth of her sister.
Broken was the body she shielded, and fresh were the tears that she shed as she tried to shelter what little life was left in her sister. The Usiku pride came to aid, but death did not wait, and it claimed her sister’s last breath the moment after she made her swear to stay with the pride- to protect what she had come to love and keep herself safe.
Iraza kept her promise, and joined the pride- but with a new bitterness in her heart and sorrow at the loss of her sister. She’s poorly adjusted, but obeys Usiku’s laws and upholds her sister's promise with a determination to make her proud.
On starry nights, she wonders of the fate of her friend… unwilling to look for him, for shame could not allow her to look for that lone star in the night- not while she had been unable to protect the star she had loved from the beginning… its light snuffed out, because she had been too late.
