Just because Disney is making 3D animated films doesn't mean they're any less magical than the 2D films. Even the 3D films of today manage to tell good stories and look beautiful. And "it's just not the same thing" is not an excuse. You need to stop living in the past.

The magic is still there, it just looks different. If we had it your way, Disney would become dated.

I wear glasses, so whenever me and my friends go see a 3D movie, I usually end up having to watch the movie half blind xD

Indeed, I did this before Princess and the Frog came out, so I'm glad they're at least attempting to bring it back. We need more, though!

Yes, because more is better, and I'm glad that Walt himself is being used to justify those arguments!

I think the success of "Epic Mickey" has laid the foundation for this kind of 2-D revival. At the very least, it's made Mickey an interesting character again (to get him out of the preschoolers-show purgatory he's been stuck in the past few years at least) and ignited interest in Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Mickey's "older brother", model for Mickey's development and now an interesting character all his own), who could in and of himself revive the whole thing.

I hope so, and I'm glad Disney is moving back to some 2D films like Princess and the Frog.

Good old Disney! Apparently, the Princess and the Frog struck the old gold once more. Here's hoping they remember the recipie.

Well, I saw in my latest issue of D23 that it's 3D (saw some concept art) and it's coming out in 2010, so I think they'll stick to 3D... though, if Princess and the Frog does well, and I'm sure it will, there will be more 2D movies in the future. ^^

First, Happy New Year !
It's a very nice drawing. I'm not at 100% with you about magic=2D animationβ¦ The story per exemple of WALLβ’E is intense and nice even if the movie is in 3D. They use 3D now because they can do so much more details, picture quality and visuals effects, but not decide if it's a magic story or not, the same for 2D. A magical story can be in 3D, 2D, or just an animated sketch with a pencil in black and white.
We will see how will be the next 2D movie from Disney, The princess and the Frog, but again it's a princess story, and princess stories are often nice, cute, and magical.

Happy New Year to you, too!
I agree, Wall-E was really great, and it is about the story and not the medium. I just don't like the idea of abandoning 2D animation in favor of 3D, simply because it's new.

My dream is to make movies with Disney. I've always seen animated films as the soul of Walt. The company should continue his dream but open up their doors to the entire family, not just bored three year olds. It would be amazing if Disney shifted its gears and made deep master pieces like Miyasakis' films. Maybe Disney hasn't followed through with 2D because they are low on creative directors in that department.
Well, in that case, you can expect me to make classics in the future! With all my being, I just want to make stories that call to children and change adults. I can bump that lamp till the cows come home.
lol By the way, you are a very talented artist!

Please actually watch the films rather than point out 3 or 4 images out of the billions that make up these wonderful works of art. Most if not all of these are simply the result of a boredom on the part of viewers, who then make incorectly misinterpret things. If any are real, they are the result of a lone animator, not Disney. Bye bye now.

I would kill for some traditional Disney magic. In my opinion, the last real classic they had was "Aladdin", although I absolutely LOVED "Wall-E". My fave all-time has to be "Lady And The Tramp".

I completely whole heartedly agree with this.
Two dimensional animation is the corner stone of Disney empire. Disney was for years the pioneer of 2-D animation. They developped new techniques and made some of the best animated movies ever. Traditional animation created classics that are as touching and beautiful today as they were when they were first published. Kids love them as do many adults too.
They should indeed make traditional animation again. Sure 3-D is fine and fancy and I have nothing against it but it just isn't the same. If something works why disney had to abandon it. It isn't the way of animation that caused some of Disney's projects to fail but the lack of good plot and warmth. One must ask why those old 2-D Disney movies had both of these.
Anyway I love this pic. Mickey is dressed in his costume from Fantasia and it combined to the background and the color choice gives this pic a great mood. It is like a memory from good old days.
I support this!

Let's hope the Frog Princess does well in the theatres so Disney can get back into where it belongs!

Very true, very true. Perhaps that was Pixar's hidden intent! (Eisner is often portrayed as short, lol) Perhaps they are the Remy that Disney needs. (Since they have merged now and Lasseter is in charge)

Yeah, that's who Lord Farquad in Shrek is supposed to be, lol.
John Lasseter isn't the top guy, but he reports directly to Roy E. Disney and the top guy... so very powerful. He's chief creative director for both Pixar and Disney Studios, as well as imagineering.
