"We all came to this village because we were searching for something missing from our lives. We thought Starlight had given it to us. But now....now it seems it was in front of us all along. It's us."

I like these four a lot. Double Diamond, Party Favor, Night Glider, and Sugar Belle.....four ponies from very different walks of life that, all for some reason or another, found themselves drawn into Starlight's village. Starlight spun such a beautiful philosophy, and offered these four a home, a family, and true, equal friendship. But of course, by the time the four realized how hopelessly they were ensnared in Starlight's web, it was too late. Even if they were afraid, malnourished, and joyless, they couldn't so easily turn their backs on the philosophy they'd thrown away their entire outside lives for. Besides, there were ponies within the town they'd come to truly love....to escape would mean leaving them behind. It was so much easier to force a smile day by day, and pretend they were happy, that this would all somehow be worth it, in the end.

With the return of their cutie marks came the return of hope and courage. They triumphed over their former leader, and stayed behind in their village to bring in a new age of love, learning, and freedom. These four loved each other during the dark days, and their bond has only grown stronger since.

what i'm saying is, they're a big ol polyamorous love herd (they all love each other, romantically)

some individual notes:

-Before joining Starlight, Night Glider hoped to become a member of the popular pegasi racing team, the Shadowbolts. Unfortunately, she could never seem to fly fast enough to qualify, and was only able to snag a job as a custodian at Shadowbolt Stadium. It was there that she overheard Starlight giving a seminar....and everything the mare said seemed to make so much sense. After listening raptly for an entire hour, Night Glider tossed away her mop, tore off her uniform, and approached Starlight with a barrage of questions-that kind, nurturing Starlight was all too patient to answer, and later invite Night to her village for dinner....

Night Glider is currently a valued member of the royal Lunar Guard. She's still training to make the Shadowbolts someday~

-Party Favor grew up as an orphan, and had always been subconsciously looking for parental figures to provide guidance. He latched onto Starlight's group in the hope of gaining a family. Everypony there seemed so nice, after all. In the cult, he was often the most eager to please, and the most distraught whenever he broke a rule, sometimes opting to punish himself, which Starlight praised as virtuous. Of the four, he had the hardest time forgiving Starlight, and he still suffers nightmares. Luckily, his mates are there to bundle him up in a comfort cuddle when they do happen. Party Favor is currently working as a balloon artist, and is pen pals with Pinkie Pie.

-Sugar Belle was a baker that'd been tasked with catering a party in Starlight's village. A natural born pony-pleaser, she was somewhat cowed by the villagers' persistence questioning regarding her mark, whether she liked it, whether or not it'd ever caused conflict, whether or not she was happy. Well, gosh, was she? She certainly didn't seem as happy as the smiling village ponies. When she expressed a polite interest in their philosophy, she was met with such praise and warmth, especially by their leader, that Sugar Belle felt as though she was truly among an entire room of new friends-friends that obviously cared about her and wanted her to be happy and equal. Perhaps there was some truth to what their leader seemed to be saying.....?

Sugar Belle felt the most foolish about being sucked into the cult, and worked the hardest to pretend she was happy, because otherwise it'd mean admitting that everything she'd given up her old life for had turned out to be a lie. She, like Party Favor, struggled to forgive Starlight for stripping away years of her life, but ultimately, she was able to forgive both Starlight and herself. She currently works as a baker, and runs her very own shop.

-Double Diamond injured himself badly in a ski accident, and might have frozen to death if he hadn't been found by a sweet, motherly mare living up on the mountain. Immensely grateful to Starlight (and honestly crushing on her kinda hard), he became fascinated with her promise of equality, and stuck around her even after recovering from his accident. Diamond helped Starlight found her village, even assisting in building the cottages and recruiting new members. The work gave him a sense of purpose, and Starlight's warm praise and affection only motivated him further. As the years go on, and the village suffers, Diamond still clings to the hope that Starlight is a good leader, and remains the most loyal to her. He reports any rule-breaking among the villagers....at first. As time goes on, he begins telling little white lies to protect his fellow townsponies, trying not to fumble when Starlight demands his daily report. Things like "Sweet Tea forgot to do her required reading today, but y-you know, she's just been so tired by her new foal! Who wouldn't be a little too sleepy to read, right? Fortunately, she was still able to faithfully make it to the evening lecture." He eventually made a habit of "forgetting" some instances of broken rules, and hushedly reminding ponies when they were unknowingly breaking rules, and it was a small blessing amongst the villagers. He still loyally played the enforcer whenever Starlight was around. Diamond was the most hurt by Starlight's betrayal, and took a long time to let go of his anger at her, and at himself.

Diamond is currently a ski instructor for young ponies. In the early days of his herd, when they were all developing feelings and getting kind of awkward around each other, he, being a honest goody-goody doofus, calls a meeting of his friends, and confesses to maybe potentially having a crush on all three of them, at once. A lot of flustered squawking and uncertainty erupts...who should date who? Do any of them even have any experience with this sort of thing? What is love, anyway?....Who gets to date Diamond?

Finally, Party Favor suggests they all just date each other. It's met by stunned silence.....then blushing nods all around, as they all try to look cool and composed, and not completely enthusiastic about becoming a big dopey family herd. Awkward beginnings aside, they've been together ever since, supporting each other through the fears of the past, and encouraging each other to pursue dreams regarding the future.

also they probably got like a bajillion babbies between them
