We just started playing the first three games on the WII virtual console last year (2012). To be honest we never thought much of series (believing it was nothing but hype when saw some brief play-throughs on youtube and animation shorts newgrounds about it). After playing the demo (out of boredom) we ended up buying the games and it officially became one of our favorite series now.

They honestly didn't catch my attention either, I thought it would be like Trauma Center only with lawyer stuff, but my mom got it for me anyway before a major trip somewhere, and I couldn't play it until I got home (She forgot it) and I was completely surprised. It really did hook me in, as the characters were surprisingly endearing and the writing was flat out hilarious!
I recommend if you do, start with the first game, Ace Attorney- If that one doesn't hook you in then there's no point in trying the next two! Apollo Justice is kind of meh, so I wouldn't try that one. Just try Ace Attorney, I don't like anime-ish games usually, so if I'm making fanart, it's usually a good one, trust me! xD
