Description It's Delilah, the hybrid human/gargoyle clone from the cartoon series Gargoyles! Well, it's a sketch of her anyways, and not exactly to the character design of her. I kind of made her look a bit younger, and generally less harsh. I read the first five issues of the Gargoyles comic book (if you haven't bought it, then go buy it! keep the series alive!), and she was in them, and I guess I always felt like, away from Thailog, she should have been a lot more innocent and naive...

So, there you go. I'll probably colour this in a while and maybe upload, like, the progression from sketch to final image in my scraps...

Looks a lot like Elisa Maza! Like her human DNA was stolen and mixed with Demona's DNA or another female gargoyle. Nice work.

Now, there's a plot hole... I bet the producers would shrug it off by saying, "Demona's immortal; she doesn't need to sleep!"

Oh, but, never send an unsolicited script to a producer or film company. If you seriously want to get optioned, talk to a lawyer that specializes in copyright, or try to get a literary agent of some kind. Otherwise, you'll not only never get a response, but the studio could also steal the idea, claiming they were working on something similar the entire time! Always be careful with your intellectual property. There are even kids in the film program who are out to steal ideas in order to "make it big..."

Oh, and I've got a flat I rent out, so it's not like I have to get up at 4am to get to my first class...

I agree; Thailog has often proved to be the most insipid and destructive influence on everyone he encounters, Delilah included. Indeed, this piece makes Delilah look much younger, perhaps in the earlier stages of her development, and I enjoy the cocky pose too. All of the clones have a child-like approach to the world around them, never really understanding the consequences of their actions, nor fully grasping what it means to function as individuals. This makes things a bit difficult for them, but also gives them the advantage of seeing the world with a fresh perspective; how many of us would pay handsomely for that chance? I like the simple approach used in this piece; the lines are similar to that of a story-board artist, indicating that some action is about to take place. You've drawn her outfit perfectly, and the hair is wonderfully similar to Elisa's. I would hope that you decide to add some color to this piece, since the real contrasts in both character and appearance really come out when you see how Delilah looks and acts (I always loved the Mocha-cocoa skin contrasted with the snow-white hair; muy caliente). Her ears are very Elfen, which I don't see too often, but I enjoy all the same. I look forward to more of your work, Ms. Lantern. Very well done.

The comics, if you've read them, made her seem actually fairly intelligent; she was like the clone clan's unofficial leader, but, what few lines she had reminded me of Demona more than they would have Elisa...

Anywho, the coloured version is up now in my gallery, as is a cheap collection of shots of the progression in my scraps, if you care.

Thanks very much, and don't worry; I've been on a heck of a Gargoyles kick lately, so expect more stuff from me soon!

I have been reading the comics and I can see what you mean. She is the leader, in one sense, but like any good leader she relies ron the people she leads, and has formed close relationships with them (much to Brooklyn's chagrin).

I would be very interested in further Gargoyles work, but as for purchasing said work, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to offer you a fair price on any artwork as well constructed as yours. I do look forward to seeing said work as soon as possible though.

Have you considered combat scenes? I would think that you would have a talent for dramatic still-shots, and Gargoyles provide plenty of inspiration for that stuff. Maybe a Goliath vs. Oberon from 'Ill Met By Moonlight', or the Trio vs. The Pack (something where a lot of muscle is involved). I wish you luck, as if you would need it.

Haha. Yeah, I loved Brooklyn's reactions to Delilah in the comics, poor guy...

But, no, what I meant by "a cheap collection of shots... in my scraps" was that the pictures are of moderately crude quality, not that I was trying to sell them! I am actually trying to get a few action scenes done, like a shot with Demona versus Goliath and Elisa, or the Avalon gargoyles versus the Archmage, or the whole Manhattan clan out patrolling... But I'm still practicing my Gargoyles Style first...

As any good artist should. Since your work with Delilah was impressive, I have no doubt you will be able to do equal justice to Goliath and the rest of the New York clan. I kinda like the muscle vs. metal battles, like Goliath matching tooth and claw with a steel clan robot. I once saw a piece where Goliath was ripped and crushing a robot head in one hand, his eyes white with his wings flared and a burning fire behind him. *Goosebumps* It was very cool. Though a shot of the Archmage getting his bearded-butt handed to him would be pretty cool. By the way, your scraps aren't of low quality. I would revisit a few of them, see if that creative spark hits you again, inspires you to take another look.

I noticed that you are from Chicago too. Do mind if I ask whereabouts? And do you go to college there too? I live on the north side and go to Columbia College in the South Loop. I'm a fiction writing major, and like you, I have to practice my style, as it were (if my work truely has any 'style' to it). Are you an art major? Stop me if I'm asking too many questions.

PS-
The colored version of Delilah is very attractive. I must favorite this one too. :-D

I was thinking of doing a series with MacBeth and Demona, too, as I love them so very, very much...

Oh, and I'm from the North Side of Chicago, but I go to school in Champaign. And I'm studying Film, actually.

They do make a gruesome but interesting pair, don't they? It would be interesting to see if one outlasts the other. I think Demona would eventually become exhausted with the constant need to hide and fight. (Not to mention that the gargoyle never gets any sleep! She's human by day and herself by night; when does she get to rest?) Macbeth seems a bit more resigned to his fate, like most retired soldiers and leaders. Though I do feel badly that both are so hell-bent on revenge.

Film, you say? Excellent field. I keep trying to get some of my scripts published, or maybe looked at by producers; they seem to have a problem with prompt responses. Isn't the commute murder between Chicago and Champaign? Or do you live in southern Illinois?
