Description The Photo

First, an explanation for the category. Simply put, this is part of city life on the East Coast. Buildings are painted in bright marine paint and you'll often find some interesting combinations; especially with the primary colours. It certainly livens up urban scenes and is definitely unique in the Canadian context.

Halifax deviants might recognize this scene - just south of North Street on Agricola you will find a series of four houses (I've cut out the fourth to the right) in different colours. Although there are some differences the basic design of each home is the same as it's neighbour. Out of the four these three have the best colours and I was able to capture them in some strong morning light. I used a series of filters here, a Tiffen polarizer to darken the sky to the left, a Cokin Blue / Yellow polarizer to bring out the blue and the yellow, and a Tiffen warming filter (85A) to reduce the blue that was showing in the white trim to the right. Trying to coordinate the two polarizers on the end of the lens was a bit tricky and it took a while, but I like the end result.

In Photoshop I corrected the perspective - the leading lines of the building were beginning to converge at the top of the frame, so I used the Edit -> Transform -> Skew to adjust them underneath a layer of guidelines.
