🎼 Personality+ Diligent | + Sociable | + Passionate | + Loyal | + Eloquent

= Ambitious | = Competitive | = Frank | = Observant

- Arrogant | - Sassy | - Jealous | - Overbearing | -Insecure

Though she's full of herself and clearly thinks she's above the rest, Clair is a very sociable person, often the one reaching out to others before they reach out to her. Coming from a wealthy family, she is observant of other people's presentation, and is good with words, despite being frank with her opinions, positive or not. She does tend to get sassy, so if she sees an opportunity to make a rude and/or snarky remark, she will make it.

Because of people's high expectations for Clair, she feels that if she slips up even once, she would disappoint everyone since she wasn't good enough for them, so she feels the need to validate herself through winning any sort of competition, especially when she knows they have more ability to win than she does. This includes grades, popularity and of course, musical ability. Clair puts 100% in anything and everything she does, especially when it comes to music. She wouldn't leave until a job is finished, or until she's satisfied with the results.

Even though she can get bossy and annoyed if things don't exactly go her way, she's very loyal to the people she's close with, often defending them with her sharp tongue whenever someone even dares to try to pick on someone who is tolerant enough to deal with her shit.

🎼 BiographyClair was born into a wealthy family in Manhattan, New York City. As an only child, she was expected to inherit her father's company someday in the future, but her eyes were turned towards a different occupation. Ever since she was young, she had a strong connection with music— especially jazz. This is all thanks to her grandfather: a retired jazz singer. He would take her to different Jazz clubs and performances scattered around New York City whenever he visits from Seattle.

Clair began playing saxophone at 8, when she stumbled upon an old tenor saxophone in her grandfather's study. When he explained that he used to play before he sang for jazz gigs, Clair demanded that he teach her how to play. After a lot of convincing her parents, she was finally able to take lessons on how to play the instrument professionally. Clair found playing the saxophone liberating, and she gained a passion for playing it and gave her entire effort into learning more of it. It was a good escape from when she was pressured with her studies—not that she didn't enjoy studying.

Her school life was more or less normal, and she still worked hard on her saxophone lessons on the side. She did her best when it came to grades, often reaping above-average scores and winning competitions as to not disappoint her parents, since they wanted her to inherit their family's company. This alone caught the attention of her peers. Clair hung out with the more popular crowd at school, and she basked in the attention this gave her. However, it also came with peer pressure, and the fear that if she messed up even once, she would be cast aside and left behind by what she called her friends. This led to her trying to reassure herself that she was better than others at what she did, resulting in her arrogance.

Years came and went, and soon enough, she was in her senior year of high school. She had to start considering her possible options for her future, and it definitely wasn't an easy choice for her. On one hand, she felt like she was obligated to inherit her father's company, but on the other, she had a strong passion for music, and it was clear that she wanted to pursue it. She expressed her feelings about her choices to her grandfather, and he handed her a pamphlet. It featured a prestigious school for music in London. As soon as she read through the details she desperately wanted to ask her parents if she could go pursue music. Clair's parents were shocked at first and were against her choice. Days passed, and her grandfather had been arguing with her parents the entire time. They didn't give in until Clair voiced out her passion for music, and even then, they had to take it into consideration. Clair waited a full week before finally getting an answer.

"I suppose it's about time the bird left the nest. If that's what makes you happy, then so be it."

Overjoyed, she thanked her parents and her grandfather and immediately ran back to her room to start applying for Clefford Conservatory.

Time passed, and Clair was anxious to receive her letter from Clefford. During the waiting period, she was more restless than usual; she was often found biting her nails, pacing back and forth in her room and playing her saxophone more than ever. This continued until one morning, Clair's grandfather called her out of her room since they'd received a letter in the mail addressed to her. As she suspected, it was a letter from Clefford. She swore, her heart was practically beating out of her chest when she held it in her shaky hands, looking at her grandfather for support. After a pause, she opened the letter, reading through it until she suddenly screamed and shot up from her seat, jumping around the living room. Bewildered, her grandfather hurried over to her, asking her for the results. Clair grinned, looking at him proudly as she held up the letter for him to see.

"I made it into the conservatory!"

🎼 Favorite PiecesEscapades by John Williams

Caprice en Forme de Valse by Paul Bonneau
Feeling Good by Michael Bublé
Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra

Clair prefers playing showy, difficult pieces because she believes that the only way to improve is to conquer something that's beyond your limits; plus it gives her an excuse to be a show-off. Of course, she loves Jazz pieces/song covers since she finds them liberating to play. Clair loves soulful music, so whenever she wants to vent out strong emotions, she expresses it through her music. She loves Fly Me to the Moon in particular because her grandfather sang it to her all the time as a child.

🎼 Relationships

Clive McKenny | Grandfather
"My grandfather is amazing. He used to be a jazz singer back in the day, and he was pretty well-known around Manhattan for his performances. Apparently, I was the only one who inherited his musical ability. I call him every night once I get back from class. I miss him."

Clyde McKenny | Father

Angel McKenny | Mother

🎼 Extra✽ The places Clair loved to perform in back in New York City were Central Park, the Subway or the sidewalks. Of course, she's had numerous recitals along with gigs in jazz clubs around the city, but it didn't compare to the feeling of satisfaction gained from drawing a crowd of busy people who took the time to stop and watch you perform.

✽ Her preferred saxophone is the alto saxophone.
✽ She wears glasses, but she wears contacts when she leaves her room.

✽ She owns a cat called Vanilla. It's back at home in Manhattan.

✽ Clair can hold her alcohol fairly well. She becomes a lot more honest than she already is when drunk, though. For example, she says her thoughts out loud without meaning to.

✽ She can't dance for shit.

✽ She has considered becoming a jazz singer just like her grandfather, but she enjoys playing the saxophone too much for that. It doesn't stop her from performing the occasional duet with her grandfather, though.

✽ Clair buys things on impulse. If she finds something interesting, she'll buy it without a second thought. It's why she has a few unnecessary knick-knacks in her room.

✽ She loves quoting movies; be it from Mean Girls, The Heathers or Harry Potter. If she finds a quote interesting, she'll probably quote it in appropriate situations.

✽Her favorite quote is "Well, fuck me gently with a chainsaw." from The Heathers.

✽ Clair has performed inside an NYC Subway Train more than once. She even got into a saxophone battle at one point.

✽ She affectionately calls her grandfather "Papa."
✽secretly plays careless whisper, we are number one, and epic sax guy when she has nothing better to do
