Jack! The main character in my Jack and the Beanstalk redesign. To the right are some of the design stages I went through before arriving at the final one.

Designing any main character is tough. They have to be someone you can identify with, but also someone that stands out on screen and remains true to the script. For this version of Jack, I set the story at a somewhat older point than the more publicized versions of Jack and the Beanstalk, focusing almost as much related on the Jack the Giantkiller myths. He's somewhat of a theif and very poor, so his clothing is either patched or stolen. Much of the design of the vest and the color scheme focuses on the patterning and color of magpies, for reasons that become apparent in the story itself.
