This week I’ve got an anthem and it’s “This Will Be Our Year” ( It Took a Long Time to Come... ) by The Zombies.It walks to the sound of tired heels and sore feet after a night out. It sings in the solemn, empty quiet of a humid yet wintry night- where no matter how busy, the land becomes a desert.
It echoes at closing.
It hums during musical intermissions.
It tastes like stale coffee- warm and burnt and home.
Its glows like streetlights in the rain.
It feels like tearing down the christmas tree.
It’s the quiet exhaustion after a good swim.
It’s that first smell of a car’s heater in winter.
It’s quiet nights staring into a dark sky and thinking when you should be sleeping.
It’s the artist as she struggles with what she knows she can be and who she is right now.
It’s the ending and the beginning of a year that will change me for the better- If I have any say in the matter. ( And what do you know? We all sort of do. )
