Description More ballpoint, this time around with some scorpion/tick/snail/venus fly-trap goodness.

Edit: Going to be working on a color version for this for the ArtOrder Mutation Nation contest! Check out my page later to see the finished submission.

Only flaw I could find is, isn't the right tentacle-eye far longer than the left-one?

i love the design! especially with the shape of the mouth.

the detail in this is awesome, makes the creature more realistic. I also like how the shading on the legs are done, it gives them texture.

The fact that this was done with a ball point pen is another plus

I saw this in someone's favourites. I can see why - its stunning. Very nice work! I love the textures on the belly, and the thought that's gone into making this a feasible creature - a lot of the features make sense. I.e. It's a good thing its eyes are on stalks away from all the sharp bits.

You're welcome - I hope to have some time to look through my watched artists this w/e. I'm very impressed by the art in your gallery.

Just curious; how big would this monster of yours be compared to a human being?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LisaCunha In reply to Enshohma [2010-05-05 20:41:52 +0000 UTC]

I'd say that the average 6' human would be about as tall as one of his main legs (the front ones that support his weight.)

Enshohma In reply to LisaCunha [2010-05-06 18:14:09 +0000 UTC]

If you mean the small white ones across his lower body (which would be the best ones for weight support), than this guy's big / long enough to battle King Kong circa 2005!

Although more than likely you're talking about the bigger ones up-front, but either way, thank you very much for the answer.

Now this is a truly interesting beast. I love the feeling of something that could exist during the Carboniferous Era. Truly amazing job. And in pen as well.

Just came off hiatus! I know it's bad juju but after graduation I decided to sit back and kick it. Now I'm on the look for freelance jerbs and me and Max are starting up an animation/machinima group

Hope things are going well for you at 38 Studios!- How is it arting fulltime?

Well, welcome back to the arting world!
Things at 38 are going very well! Arting full time: it does not suck.
We just had a field trip of RISD kids come visit, which was awesome. I get to pretend to be the grizzled veteran and all
It's good to see that you're making work again...just needed some time to recover from RISD?

LisaCunha In reply to nicholaskole [2010-03-26 16:39:30 +0000 UTC]

Ah man, I would've had a lot of fun with that. ''Yes, I get quite a lot work done in the back of the company limosine. They have scanners and printers in place of the bar.''

As for RISD...Yeah, that's one way to put it X3. I was pretty burnt out after the madness of our senior show and finals getting crammed together in such a short period of time, so I took a few months off to travel, see the sights. Getting ready to move to Puerto Rico fulltime and set up a studio there for freelance fun time...I'm super excited about it.

It's great to hear you're doing so well! One day your grizzled veteran self is going to have to give me some tips and pointers if/when I get a jerb with a videogame production company, so I can namedrop shamelessly.

Welllll.............if you DIDN'T go to Puerto Rico...
IF you wanted to be put in contact with some people in the Industry I might be of a mind to help. How do you feel about Environment art? Or Character art, but in Baltimore?
Just random thoughts, but in all seriousness, let me know. That would be by way of my "grizzled veteran bit"
of course that would have to go more like:
"Kid. You've got chops. I'm not promising anything, but I may know a guy..." >scratches unshaven neck, lights stogie<

And they don't have printers in the back of the company limosine. Who prints things anymore? srsly.

...and there's ALWAYS a bar.

Baltimore- You talking about Bethesda Softworks? I did a bit of concept work for one of the guys on their publishing team sophomore year. Was neat.

Of course, any contacts I can get is super appreciated (and usually repaid by the oh-so-awesome gift of chibi pictures, because I'm a raging professional.) Don't know if you ever took a class with Lars Grant-West, but he was super helpful referring me to a few industry blogs for D&D/WotC stuff. Was gonna focus on the freelancing thing because it seemed like the easiest way to ease into the industry for the time being- but hey, e-mail addresses where I can accost people with portfolio picks deserve to go in the Rolodex. X3

Bethesda? No no! 38 Studios, the company I work for, bought out Big Huge Games, and now has an office down there developing a fantasy RPG project, need character artists, and suits your style pretty well

I'm sending you a note. Be aware
