I'm no good with writing descriptions, so this is the closest i can get to give you guys a tutorial :$ i hope its useful to everyone. if you have any questions on how i drew something, i will sure try my best to explain^^download to see full-sized.

thanks... when i read you are self-taught... i was highly impressed with your work ... im self-taught too but damn.. i have ALOT to learn....
... my problem is the getting the 1st basic features and face on the paper ... if you have any tips on that?? do you use grid or else????

well grids are very helpful but i find grids to be very time consuming cause im lazy! . i mainly draw faces or people. basically my technique is to estimate whereabouts each feature is based on the sizes and locations of other features.

the link above shows you an idea of my technique.
a tip is at the start to figure out what it at half way and quater of the page etc. example for the image i was drawing up the top, the highest point of the hands (where the thumb is) starts 1/4 down from the top of the page. and the end to her face was roughly half way down the page.
and when im drawing not from a reference image and drawing a real life face or figure. i realised i tend to use my fingers to imitate the shape of a feature and try to copy it to paper.
i don't know if this will help you. these are just the techniques i use when drawing. i think everyone has different techniques based on what works for them. i hope i have helped =/
