Description September 2008
16"x20" cotton canvas,
Rembrandt Series 1 oil paint.

Notes: This was originally painted at the time of Less Magic, More Mechanics when I was experimenting with masking tape and gesso. The idea came to me and I placed it on canvas, only to later realise that the tape was mostly a grave error.

Until recently this piece was indefinitely shelved, but with the help of `arctoa a presentable version was salvaged through cropping off most of the left and top - where the masking tape was along with a severely irritating reddish darkening in the corner (I want to say I had an idea for it, but it'll remain a mystery to both you and I).

Unfortunately, this piece will remain only as a digital copy, as the post-work obviously cannot be applied to the physical canvas. This is something that I'd like to revisit again, sans masking tape, of course.

Beautiful, really like the very strong contrasts both in colour and detail of the blue clouds against the strong red peaks.

Oooo! I like this. The sky is very lovely.
Can I ask why the masking tape was a mistake? I am curious as I will probably be taking my first painting class in the Fall and I know they expect us to use tape to mask out sections.
And lastly isn't it lovely that in this digital age we have the opportunity to salvage something of our "mistakes".
I'm glad you salvaged this one .

Thankyou so much! Your words are appreciated. :>

In this case the masking tape was a mistake in my eyes 'cause a) it wasn't even placed on very straight, hah and b) it didn't match the mood of the painting.

'cause of the very muted palette I ended up with, tearing it off would leave too much contrast with the stark white, but leaving it on didn't really do it any justice, either.

It is nice having this option nowadays with the digital medium, but I'm still somewhat sad that my original isn't this. Hah.

I'm definitely going to be repainting this one day. :>

Thankyou again.

If i say something nice you wont mock me for liking a painting hehe...

No its good. Reminds me of alot of footage of the golden gate bridge covered in fog we get. Always gives off dream like quality. This however you have done that and achieved an even heightened feel with the colour platte.

I however dislike the canvas texture. But think thats more of a general preference lol So don't worry about it ^_^

I'm glad to hear you like it, seriously. and I'm happy to hear of such a lovely reminder is stirred because of it. Thankyou, m'sieur.

Hope you're well.

I like the light coming from this painting, like a watercolorish oil... the clouds are great too.

About the whole process here, I gues it's experimentation what keeps an artist alive (not just following what others say is good). Sometimes experiments just don't work (Da Vinci himself is a perfect example) one has to try again changing some of the variables...

Aye, exactly. I'm looking forward to my second attempt at this, too - now that I know what to do and how to control the medium a bit better. Hah.

Thankyou very much for your kind comment. <3

I love the wild variation to the palette, truly carries wondrous notes and incredible depth, love how the canvas texture came through as well What I find somewhat sad, is that the pinnacle of the "bridge" reaches so high, and yet not high enough to touch the clouds.

The colours are beautiful! I adore how the bridge seems to be leaking downwards, drifting into a mist of softly magical colour.
