Description People often assume that every experience with meditation is positive and peaceful, but as you can imagine, if your sitting down and shutting up for the first time, your confronted with alot of negativity and chatter, though the experience is useful and positive in the long-term, at the time it can be pretty disconcerting, even terrifying.

That's description is so true. Lots of people fill their lives with noise and movement to avoid confronting the scary or negative aspects of themselves or their surroundings. This drawing really evokes the feeling of being surrounded by a strange and foreign 'forest' that holds elements of threat. The variety of pattern throughout makes it quite interesting to view.

Tool's song 46 & 2 always reminds me of that. You need to step THROUGH the shadow, to reach the higher plane of existence. You need to slog through the mire to get to that amazing plateau of peace. And when you get there, don't expect your journey to end. Life is a series of dips, curves, ebbs, flows, and complete circles. You will get battered, beaten, elated, and enthralled.

Your work screams to me, and I find myself getting lost in it.

Couldn't put it any better than that.

Thank you, if you've spent even a moment lost in there, I'm happy with it! Thats why I don't like explaining too much for some people, makes it easier to stay 'found' that way. Cheers!

I've got a friend that meditated a few times, had this sort of experience and refused to carry on, he felt deceived. Tried explaining that at first it's usually going to be like that, when you discover that your thought pattern is not only negative but also something your at the whim of, as if your split, then thats all the more reason to try and settle it. He still ain't having none of it haha.

ha yep, sounds like a few people i know and ive had very similar and intense experiences on drugs in this same demon confrontation category, or the abyss.. but i think you can also experience the same feelings of terror or astonishment in things that are extremely beautiful too, as opposed to dark things or whatever.
i suppose the key is how you look at it, i actually made a vow to myself to turn fear and confusion into curiosity and wonder, still working on it haha
alan watts is a master of explaining this topic

Alan's the master of any topic haha nah that is exactly it, when you learn to do that and take things as they are in the present moment with no preconceptions I think your set. It's pretty hard to get hung up on things and experience unnecessary fear when confronted by things if your at that point. It's just getting there!
