I can see how you'd come to use this splash effects to spice up the picture. However I am wondering whether they not actually reduce the attention that should be drawn by the face. I like the fact that you emphasize the material character of the media used for painting. It's not quite coming together for me though. And, something I never properly manage either, it might be interesting for you to not adress beautiful faces alone.
