Description

I never know what to put my art under or which category... Sorry if my art is always in the wrong category!
I didn't actually design this thinking of it being an Easter themed art, but somehow it kinda turned out that way so I am posting it on Easter! ^^The dress and girl are based on the Victorian style, that I found to have some interesting style dresses recently. So this is kinda themed on the Victorian time, but not really. Lol

Well, here I go attempting to give you a helpful bit of critique.

I really like the different textures, it really helps to make the piece more interesting for the eye. The bright friendly colors really seems to add a peaceful air to the picture. The texture on the bunny next to the girl really makes it look fluffy and soft! And I absolutely love the birds and the little bunny on the chair holding the T-cup. I believe someone bellow mentioned an Alice In Wonderland feel to the piece, and I have to agree with that!

I would suggest making it a little more three-dimensional, the table and chairs seem to be on a hill tipping forward. The angle seems strange to me, and does feel like it fits with the rest of the picture.

And there is my little bit of critique, it probably was not very helpful. But I tried.

Thank you so much!

I am glad that the textures are appealing to the eyes I thought maybe there was either too much or to little in this one so that is nice to hear. I am so glad that the bunny appears that way, that is the look I was trying to achieve! I am so glad to hear you like the bunny holding the tea cup and the birds, I wasn't sure how people would take those in this piece.

Ahh yeah I see that now that you mention it, I didn't even notice that before! I have so much trouble with that kind of stuff, not sure why though. It really does look out of place now that you point that out. I don't think I can fix it though..hmm...

It was very helpful, thank you so much! Also i apologize for being so late in responding to you! ^^

I enjoy textures, growing up around art all my life I have see many textures used in many ways.
I think the animals are adorable, and they work well in the piece.^^

I understand, perspective can be hard sometimes. I have a particularly hard time when drawing an animal picture where the perspective is looking up from underneath it.

Looking at real tables at the angle you wish to draw can help that, also lightening and blueing it up a bit the farther away parts of the ground also helps give more realistic look to the ground.

Here is an example [link] I soften the tree's colors the farther away they are. I also add a hint of blue.

You grew up around art? What was that like? Thank you so much! Glad to hear they work well in the piece!

I haven't even tried that perspective yet because I am scared of it! xD Sounds silly, but it' true so I applaud you for trying! ^^

Oh that is very true, I will try that next time. I never thought of putting blue in it like that, but the picture really does give a more realistic look from that! I will have to try that next time, thank you for the advice!

Shade-of-the-Night In reply to Lil-Greenie [2012-04-10 02:58:23 +0000 UTC]

I'm still around art, and it is wonderful! I'm able to look at other artist's work and even talk to them! Although the traveling can be quite tiresome. I've learned so much, I wouldn't be where I am today art wise, if I hadn't grown up around a love for artwork. (being around the art itself helps also).

But I have met many artist who don't have that, and they have taught themselves. And their work is so amazing and beautiful! SO growing up around it doesn't always mean you're ahead.

I am afraid to try many angles, the one I have just mention, is one I generally avoid doing! But I am determined to practice it because I am afraid of it. ^^

I didn't either until my father pointed that out to me when I was younger, he said that objects become lighter and bluer the farther back they go. The details and shading will also become less detailed. I believe he showed me with this piece [link] for real.

Looking at real photographs will also help, since some places have red light and sand. Here is a great example of the blueing as things get farther away from a professional artst [link] Take a look around his website. There are some beautiful pieces there!

That sounds really nice, to me. I can't even imagine how that would be to be around art all the time like that, it must be nice, though it might have it's down sides to. You travel a lot?

Oh really?I don't actually know any artists besides you or heard of any besides you who have grown up around art, to be honest. Self taught artists? Sounds like it might just boil down to a love for art then? Although in your case your art is quite nice so i think that growing up around art has helped you art wise! ^^ I am pretty much self taught so I wouldn't really know! I did have an art teacher a few years back but I didn't like her she pretty much told me I had no talent so give up..

So I am not the only one then? xD That is actually quite amazing to try to practice it because you are afraid of it, is really nice! I wonder if most people have trouble with that view or not? Different angels can be a real headache to me sometimes so I am curious. Lol.

So your father must understand art a bit to then? That piece is nice, and I see what you mean when I look at pictures and other paintings I see the same thing, I never noticed all this stuff before. Your really amazing! ^^

Red light? Yeah I can see where you are coming from on that. That painting is absolutely gorgeous! I really like it, and I get what you mean about the blueing and bluring. It really does give it a more realistic feel to it.

Shade-of-the-Night In reply to Lil-Greenie [2012-04-10 17:06:39 +0000 UTC]

It is pretty cool, but like you said it all comes down to a love for art. My little brother has grown up around art, but he doesn't like coloring let alone painting unless their is some kind of competition involved. xD He loves to compete in things.

That's so sad! Why would any teacher try to discourage someone like that? Some of that art I see that sells for a lot tends to be scribbles and do not make much sense to me. And then their are the others like the ones I showed you.

Angles can be a pain sometimes, and I bet there are people who find the angles we think are are to be very easy to do, while others find the ones we think are easy to be quite difficult.

You could say that!He helps me a lot. I never noticed it either until he pointed it out. ^^ I'm glad I could help you!

Lil-Greenie In reply to Shade-of-the-Night [2012-04-11 06:18:00 +0000 UTC]

Lol that is so funny! Well everyone is different not everyone ends up being the same just because of environment around them, but Don't most boys like to compete? xD
Well I guess because I was never good at "copying" art I had to learn different ways of drawing things because I couldn't just see something and then draw it, but if it was in my head and I could visualize it being 3d and that I could touch it, then it was different. So I wasn't exactly what she would call a talented person. Most of the time teachers try to make everyone out to be the same when we can only be who we are..does that make sense?

I have seen the odd scrible art you are talking about and I don't get it either Lol.

This is very true, I hope to be able to get better at different angels so that I can expand my drawing base though. ^^

That's good! ^^

Shade-of-the-Night In reply to Lil-Greenie [2012-04-11 19:35:31 +0000 UTC]

True, so very true. I've met an odd boy here and there that don't like to compete. But I think most every human has a bit of a desire to compete in some way.

Yeah, I understand where you are coming from. I guess it can be hard for a teacher to see every student individually and not clump them together.

Every one is entitled to their own opinion I guess, ours just doesn't lean toward the scribble art.

Same here! I want to be able to draw what ever I want someday, and not be held back because it is at an odd angle.

Lil-Greenie In reply to Shade-of-the-Night [2012-04-15 14:32:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh really? I don't think I have met a boy who didn't like to compete in some aspect. Though I am sure there are ones who don't like to compete. Very true I think it might be part of our nature to want to compete, even if it is just for fun and not serious.

Mhmm, Most teachers can not do that, or maybe they don't want to? I don't know but that is just how I see it.
True though I would like to understand why scribble art is so attractive to others. It makes me curious to what others see in the art itself. Is it the color choices or the patter of the scribble?
I am sure you will be able to! The angel that I seem to have the hardest time with is a girl looking up at you while she is sitting, the head will look terrible..

Sorry for such a late reply, I've been running all over the place lately. >>

Sadly that is true, which makes the experience of school sometimes unpleasant when you need a little extra help on something. Of course that's what tutors are for.

Same here, some times the colors are interesting and the way they are placed together. Other times it is just odd.

Ah, that is a hared angle!

Oh, it's fine I have been quite busy myself latly!
Yes I agree with you on that, You say that is what tutors are for but you also have to be aware that not everyone can afford or are offered a tutor, I also believe that the teachers should be able to TEACH the students instead of tutors, seeing as they are "teachers" after all but that is just my opinion.
Yeah I agree with that.
So you think so to? Guess I don't feel so bad anymore!

I think so, doing that angle with a wolf or dragon would be hard for me, (Now I want to try it).
