The Elite Guard designed to protect the Cybertronian Peace Pact and the Council. Though, the Elite Guard has often acted on Optimus' Orders mostly.

Optimus' best friend Ultra Magnus (G1/RID) runs the Elite Guard.

Star Saber (Victory) runs as Commander of the Autobot Flight Corps,

Blurr (Unicron Trilogy) is the Mission Handler for the Street Action Team, and Sentinel is second-in-command of the Elite Guard.

Sentinel (Classics/Animated) alongside the council prefer not to have locals involved with their war but much to his dismay, different Transformer races and the humans wind up involved. He holds an odd distaste for Organics...

In my Galaxy Force continuity the plot is this:

Long after the Great Cybertronian Wars have ended with Unicron's defeat and a source of energy called Solatarium has been discovered, a new threat emerges.

Disgruntled with how his brother Galvatron; leader of the Decepticons, has forged a final peace with the Autobots, Beast Megatron formed the Predacons and vowed to eradicate the Autobot menace forever.

With Unicron's defeat, a Black Hole was formed, and now the four leaders of Cybertron's Galaxy Force: Optimus Prime, Elita One, Galvatron and Ultra Magnus and the Autobot-Decepticon Alliance must find the Four Cyber Planet Keys and the artifacts of the 13 Primes... Now the Alliance must battle the treacherous Predacons in... The Cyber Key Battles!
