Good eye. That's what I thought when I bought the toy.
Once compared to the Japanese vehicle, I realized there were many differences.

If i'm not wrong now, isen't that the new prototype model that will replace the hmmvee from general motor's.. think it's called the eagle or something fancy american like that. nice work btw.

There was a MRAP vehicle that's being built that made a splash. Before that there was the ULTRA-AP that was under development. I also noticed there seems to be an even bigger MRAP called the Buffolo, which is all new to me.
IMO, I think this looks closer to what the Japanese are using for land patrol right now. [link]
Not really looking the same, but I might be able to make an updated version to look closer to the real thing.

I still think it looks more like the GM new humvee program, somewhat a crossover over the eagle and the cobra.

Eagle looks closer than the cobra.
I think I might be able to rebuild my 1:18 toy to be like the cobra. It looks pretty nifty.

the Buffalo is a MUCH larger vehicle with a mechanical arm on it used for investigating IEDs. it's featured in the new transformers movie as a decepticon called "bonecrusher". if i tell you any more, i'll have to kill you..
