Children like to think that they will live forever
Immortal angels in fields of flowers and horses
Yet on the horizon looms the threat of age
To which they all succumb when naught but freedom
Clouds their vulnerable minds and conducts irrational acts

Only the passage of years can make them understand
That childhood comes and goes – best live it while you can
For someday the Earth will welcome you into her embrace
Regret filling them for the children they barely were
Now just as alive as a horse on a broken carousel.
