Description
A soft breeze whistles gently through the trees, rustling their pine needles. With your eyes closed, the sun warms your skin, seeping through your eyelids in a red-orange glow. The breeze brushing by takes the edge from the sun's heat. The sound of the ocean lapping gently against the cliffs below pulses regularly, like the whole world is taking slow breaths. You time your breathing to the waves.
In... in again, and out...
In... in again, and out...
The waves rise in volume, the tension increasing with an intake of breath, then recede, the tension draining away in an exhaled release.
The salty brine of the ocean washes over your tongue as you inhale. With an exhale, the taste lingers, reminding you of home. A distant, chattering squawking heralds the frustration of seagulls competing over a meal, and an amused smile finds its way onto your face.
Slowly opening your eyes, you see the vibrant hues of a peaceful world. A deep, evergreen color decorates the boughs of the trees nearby, and the bright blue of the sky emanates through fluffy white clouds.
A dark streak swoops majestically across the expanse of the sky, creating a subtle speed trail behind it as it flies. The amused smile from earlier widens into a heartfelt grin: your friend has arrived.

Hey everyone! This piece was inspired by an experience on my mission, where I was feeling very anxious one day and my roommate walked me through creating a safe place, to help me feel calm. It only kind of worked (I generally get to calm not by running from reality, but from facing and processing it), but it stuck in my mind forever.
So, welcome to my safe place! It's an island in the HTTYD universe, and my friend is Toothless! Except, without Hiccup. So I guess it's after The Hidden World? Question mark?
Regardless, I hope you were able to feel the peace and calm I was going for with this!
PS--what do you think of the clouds?? I think I'm getting sooo much better at them (it helps that they're easier on digital anyway)!!
