first of all, this is art theft, and I am reporting it, second of all It is a common misconception that subtitles are necessarily always the better translation. And, since I am only into anime to be entertained NOT because I have an inordinate interest in the Japanese language or culture, what obscure trivia is lost in dubbing is of no consequence to me as much as the what main thrust of the story is.
Dubbing is the most natural way to view any foreign film because you pick up the dialogue with your ears and the video with your eyes. If I want to read, then I'll read a manga. Real life is not subtitled. Dubbed works reach a far larger foreign audience than subtitled for this very reason.
Dub fans don't pretend to be able to judge a Japanese seiyu's performance. I like honesty. I don't believe in nonsense like "All dubbing makes my ears bleed!" or "The voices don't fit the characters!"
Dub fans do not go "up in arms" unless provoked by prosyletizing sub fans who always shoot the first volley with stuff like "Dub fans can't read." I dislike low forms of peer pressure.
I don't find groups of non-Japanese people who insist on inserting Japanese words and phrases into their dialogue to be anything other than annoying. I do not listen to anime podcasts created by hosts who turn their noses up on dubs, because I lump them in the same boat. I do not read anime reviews when the reviewer admits he only watched the show in Japanese with subtitles. His opinion doesn't mean diddley to me, because he won't be bothered to review the version that most fans want to know about.
Dub fans support the anime industry, because dubbed anime is legally licensed and dubbing gives work to local actors. Sub fans who illegally download fansubs are cheating the industry they claim to love. Dub fans don't go all over the internet voicing support towards the elimination of subbing. The majority of dubbed anime on DVD allows you the option of watching subbed, if you want. Sub-only releases...well, self-evident, eh? Dub fans generally believe "to each his own." Sub fans generally want to see all dubs get incinerated, and truly do believe that dub fans are idiots. I find that attitude to be so abhorrent, that I avoid forums pwned by them.
