You can fangirl with me anytime. ;D
I typically play Trolls but I've probably played every Horde race at least once except for Tauren, and then the Pandaren. Mostly I play Trolls though lol. Trolls and Orcs.
short response because at work agh

I love Vol'jin <3 I'm so glad he became Warchief actually. Trolls have some interesting lore behind them too, like how they used to be the dominant race on Azeroth a long, long time ago. Plus Night Elves descended from Dark Trolls so it's like... interesting how deep that connection runs, even though they hate each other (such as Zul'jin's hatred of the High Elves/Blood Elves, and his subsequent hatred for the Horde for letting them join). I definitely recommend reading into it! Is cool stuff.
Orcs are another race I really love the lore behind. My half-Orc's father was actually Frostwolf too, haha. I have a tendency to be all over the place with the clans, but I think I like the Laughing Skulls the most |D also yes, Durotan is amazin in both game, lore, and movie trailer mwahaha
I should draw my characters sometime. I started to draw Shahall and his parents, buuuuut I fell off that pic so hard. I should work on it again. > >;

Well he sure as heck is a lot better than the Hellscream family hahaha Man they could've done better than that (you would think that after everything thrall would be a better judge of character) and its awesome that Vol'jin is the first non orc warchief of the horde ? o:
It always intrigued me because i realize that the horde only formed after the wars and the arrival of the orcs, but other races were native to azeroth and they were not. So why would they lead the horde? I mean it takes more than one race to make the horde lol
But i'll surely get into the troll lore, i'm actually doing a lot of WoW reading in my free time now (gotta do something right xD the books are decent and fun) and i think they will touch on the other horde races as well.
Ahw nice man i love Frostwolfs, but honestly all they're clans sound so cool. And im not talking about WoD because somehow everything went wrong there D: I read Rise of the Horde and they made the orcs, native on draenor, sound like a tad primal but balanced people who were very in tune with nature and the elements. Yet in WoD they're nothing like that (i know its a bit further in the story where the elements already have forsaken them) even though they turned away from the burning legion. I wouldn't be able to choose a clan as well, i love durotan hahaha but imagine having to live in frostfire ridge hahhaha and yes the laughing skulls are pretty darn cool o: I mean everyone distrusts them but w/e they got the skills lol I think i would have to side with the Whiteclaws though (and maybe later try to worm my way into frostwolf lol after they got wiped i mean) or the Shattered Hand clan because i like Kargath xP
Maybe I should make warcraft OCs that are NOT my own in game charas hahaha and develop them with lore fitting stories instead of the 'all over the place' hero type. That way i could get myself and arakkoa O:
Maybe RP with them and such lol
and YES you should!! I want to see them hahhah

They lead the Horde because the original Horde was the union of all Orcish clans against one perceived common enemy: the Draenei. Kil'jaeden manipulated Ner'zhul into thinking the Ancestors (and his deceased mate Rul'kan) were warning their people about the evil of the Draenei. When he learned the truth, he had been sold out by Gul'dan, who willingly served the Legion because he pretty much wanted the biggest slice of pie he could get. But the original Horde was all Orcs, and that's why they led; they were originally led by Blackhand (who was Gul'dan's puppet), who was replaced by Orgrim Doomhammer, who in turn passed it on to Thrall when Thrall freed the Orcs from the internment camps. The other races joined the Horde, but really it was just those three in charge. Garrosh was put in charge mainly because he was a war hero, and to be fair, he was a decent leader at times, but he was put in a position where he literally had to pick up the pieces. He was blamed for things he didn't do, leading to the death of Cairn (which wasn't entirely his fault because of Magatha's underhanded tricks, and he was actually upset about it because he felt he had been robbed of an honorable fight with Cairn), and he was held to the expectations of his father, a man he barely knew, and if he didn't measure up to those expectations, he wasn't as good a warchief as Thrall or as good a warrior as his father. Pluuuuus Garrosh had issues to begin with. He wasn't able to fight the Draenei because of being sick with the Red Pox, but he wanted to fight alongside his father. Go from that to being called a pitiful excuse for an Orc and told he should die (by Kargath Bladefist of all people), and then being trapped on a broken world with his father on the other side of the portal... yeah, he had serious issues. He tried, but he had issues, and nobody seemed to give a rat's ass about said issues.
Is it obvious I've been reading too much? I read Rise of the Horde too~ and Beyond the Dark Portal and Shadows of the Horde and War Crimes and played the first two games and OTL I need to stop nerding out.
Yiiiiis make OCs that aren't in game. It's more fun that way. At least in my experience |D; none of my in-game characters are rped, really. OTL I'd looooooove to see characters you come up with so... like... tab my name or something if you make any, so I can rub my face all over it.
Since you're so awesome I'll throw sta.sh links at your face.

I'm good at that. XD My wife loves Garrosh now, she used to hate him but then I pretty much ruin every villain |D; hell, I used to hate Gallywix until I read his backstory... and... well I've even ruined Gul'dan, but that's with non-canon stuff lmao. I just... I feel really bad for Garrosh. He's been given the short end of the stick all his life. And now he's died and has gone down as one of the most maligned members of the Horde in history, and he died wanting nothing more than to make his father proud. He won't even have a Lok'vadnod about him more than likely, he'll just be regarded as some villain, or worse, completely forgotten.
Hmm.... The Alliance has issues with certain races, but the Horde is mostly groups of people who are trying to just find their place in the world. The Blood Elves are looked down on for their innate magic addiction, the Trolls are despised for being naturally savage and for once ruling the world, the Forsaken are undead abominations (even if they regained sentience), the Orcs are the monsters that destroyed everything (after all, who cares if they were manipulated by the Burning Legion and had no home of their own?), while the Tauren are actually the outliers given how peaceful they are. I don't know enough about Tauren lore to understand why they're in the Horde, but that may be more that Cairn and the Tauren joined the Horde because Thrall was a friend. And since Thrall = Orc, friend of Thrall must = bad. That's my guess lol.
Just go ahead and have fun with it! I've got... a lot of characters, my wife and I can prolly bounce ideas off your brain. Buuuuut some of our characters are... way out there lol. As an example for a more tame idea, I've made a 'daughter' for the new Warchief... and I usually try to avoid doing that, but it's private rps so we just go all out since we give no craps with each other |D;;; Though that Troll idea sounds like a lot of fun. Like an accidental Zalazane, poor thing |D;
Hybrid families are fun! That's a thing my wife and I do too much lmao. But while they're uncommon, there actually are a few in WoW apparently. Garona and Rexxar are the more well-known ones, Lantressor has been getting more attention again after being in the shadows since BC, but there's also NPCs like Arator, Giramar and Galadin, the Vrykul are described as half-giants... There's a lot of potential. I'll have to work on that pic again for you... and I need to do that pic of Lilyxi bathing in gold coins, it's a must. XD

Canon or not i dont think that i could never like gul'dan. His deeds do not come from a lack of respect or a troubeled childhood. Gul'dan only cared about the power kil'jaden and sargeras promised him, he didnt give a rat's ass about his people. And garrosh? Well this way it doesnt make him all bad and he is certainly treated worse than he deserves but you must admit he made some terrible life choices. Honestly. Even though Thrall was being unfair and placed him in a bad position i understand why they needed to remove him from that same position as well. I guess Thrall should've chosen better.
I do not dislike Gallywix hahhaha and the tauren. They're really peaceful and naturebound just like the orcs were. Maybe they joined because of that, to help the orcs regain their ways. I do believe they even mention such i thing i canon.
I do not usually go for characters closely tied to canon (aside from you know being a dk and loyal to arthas or beinhg forsaken and getting in touch with sylvanas etc.) but i must admit that in rps that is certainly more fun hahaha because i could grant interesting political stances and views. And of course power lol.
If i were to make a troll he/she wouldn't be a crazy as zalazane hahaha zalazane was too evil for my liking even though it was the voodoo. I think mine would be clumsy and kinda bad at what they want to do but no actual losing themselves to the voodoo...maybe the accidental hexxing of people hahha but they would always do everything they could to fix their mistakes. Zalazane was cool though :')
And yessss i know of hybrids/halfbloods but honestly i would've thought there would be more. Garona is the first i even heard of. Lancestor of the blade is indeed a very fun character to quest with. Nice that he made a reappearance in WoD. And you really should draw your goblin like that haha is she of such high status?
Maybe ill go draw some vrykul...

For me it's more that Gul'dan is a love-to-hate character. He's a "heel". I enjoy the enigma behind him because there's literally nothing about his past... just that he was Ner'zhul's apprentice and he had great promise as a student. And he's one of the younger characters in the Old Horde too, possibly Durotan's age or so in theory (it never says, only that he wasn't very impressive in stature and that he was very obviously younger than Ner'zhul because he was chosen to succeed him). But even if there's no real reason behind his behavior other than "I want power", I just enjoy his character. Garrosh I enjoy more for dissecting his mindset, normally I don't like the kind of character that Garrosh is, but he has depth. That depth is what I like. Same with Gallywix, that's the only thing that had me start to like him in the end. I mean he sends a portrait of himself enjoying his wealth to the woman he liked (and whose father he exiled), so that's a level of narcissism that takes quite a bit of effort to develop. And his past gives considerable insight into Goblin culture as a whole, so him... I've learned to enjoy his antics lol. Plus other backstories show that even Gallywix has redeeming qualities (a potential other timeline in which he gets into a fistfight with Garrosh? Heck yes.), so I've learned to accept that I can be shocked by these characters.
I don't usually go by characters closely tied to canon either, she literally came as a result from random derping about with Vol'jin and Vanira (because she's awesome), and then we ran with it because it was amusing. XD Other than that, really I try to avoid it, the only person I do it with is my wife, and that's because... well... literally, logic tends to fly out the window.
I always felt bad about Zalazane, reading his story with him and Vol'jin taking the trials hurt. But that would certainly be a fun way to play a Troll! Starting with a concept and then run with from there, you never know what can happen. My Troll character is a Rogue who died and was turned into a Death Knight based on my initial plans... I need to draw him sometime. OTL I had always planned the Death Knight thing, but what I hadn't planned was something my wife threw into his past; something that likely doesn't fit with canon, but I can't resist keeping because it was oddly adorable. > >
My Goblin lady... I've been trying to sort her out, I was thinking something along the lines of a mafia boss or the daughter of one. She's a woman who knows what she wants and goes out of her way to get it. She isn't above using her sexuality to get what she wants (and in fact does it often), but she also isn't above getting her hands dirty either. She's a Demonology Warlock since I can see her using her demons as bodyguards, and also because I can see her using that demonic transformation when she decides to take matters into her own hands. I need to research Warlocks more, I only have one and she's Affliction.

Well, basically when he was itty bitty bebe Troll (well maybe more like a toddler), he was raised by a Human Paladin who basically just felt it would've been wrong to just kill him. So he knows Common and was raised from a young age to believe in the Light. XD Like i said, might not fit, but it was adorable. The guy raised him until he was killed on an expedition to fight the Scourge, and after that point he fled and managed to find other Trolls (the Darkspears), and was eventually taught how to be a Troll again, even though they never quite picked up on just why he was so far removed from society, at least in rps and such.
That's actually pretty cool stuff right there. o: I had something similar going on with mine, though I never was able to figure out how it would work with Jerzaj. He technically died from the cold (how perfect for a Frost DK), so basically he always had a pale frostbitten color to him and his limbs were discolored and stuff... He was loyal to the Lich King though, at least for a while. Mainly because he reminded him of the guy that raised him. XD
Omg, you have some of the best ways of describing it, now I really want to start drawing her again. Maybe she starts off as the don's daughter, before she eventually succeeds him (or maybe even offs him, because Goblin), but omg... you just made me fall in love with my own character all over again. XD Maybe you should poke at a Goblin character eventually, cuz those descriptions were just perfect.

Ahh omg thats so cute. Now i imagine him being a darkspear troll in pretty much everything but shouting stuff like "by da light~!" when shocked. And not realizing he did that until he notices the weird faces the other trolls make.
Maybe his heart then? If it got stopped by the cold. And yes i love the lich king. He may be an literal heartless bastard but the scourge is one of the most badass forces on azeroth. Especially after arthas merged with ner'zhul and they freed themselves from the burning legion. Its not that im sad he is dead because well arthas was a little shit but wotl expansion was one of the best. And i love the frost/unholy/skeleton/abomination vibe it had (hooray for the plaguelands).
Also vrykul.
Ahhh yes she could just go and 'take over the family business' when she felt the time was right. I could see that happening with goblins hahaha well maybe i'll draw her some time 0; i got a pretty nice idea now lol i just might have to do that if time allows me
