LaTupinette, why do you call her an oriental courtesan when she clearly is not of oriental origin? She's Caucasian right? This is not meant to be a confrontational question but it is just a query.

Yes she is european ! But as a lot of courtesan from the Belle Epoque, she invented herself an extraordinary origine and dress to fit her fictionnal character. Some courtesan like Mata Hari has done the same.

So she's lying to this guy?

Oh wow I love the staging in this. How the opened door light illuminates her face and how the mirror reveals who the visitor is. Excellent storytelling in one illustration, I've gotta say
That, and I love her hair so much. So classy.

!Que hermosa! This is a perfect example of the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words".

The way Aubrey stands tall, perfectly coiffed & clean-shaven with the flowers held out front is the perfect body frame to the excited & expectant stare masking his slight nervousness. The way Lakme looks at him over her shoulder is inviting and it's heightened by the wide & alluring smile that parts her lips. Her smile is also one of knowing: knowing that she is in full control of the world inside her boudoir and only 1 man has been granted entry into this sacred inner sanctum.

What's amazing is the way that the reflections in the mirror are done at the perfect angle. I also love the extra-personal details you put in. The nod to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's work of Jane Avril, the photo of Captain Nemo on the nightstand, the statuette of Ganesh, and the picture on the mirror frame. How you can replicate previous work that you've done in such a small scale in another picture is extraordinary! There is a story of passion and joie de vivre that is begging to be told here. I can't wait to read all about it!

Once again, I am very impressed!

It's a great moment for me every time I read one of your comments ! Thanks for spending so many time writing so nice comment ! Sorry for not answering as it deserve it but my english is very poor...

You're the first to notice the reference to Toulouse-Lautrec ! He's one of my favourites painter ! In fact, the portrait on the table is not the Captain Nemo, he's Lakme second husband, a maharaja. I haven't draw him yet... but he'll be probably inspired by my Captain Nemo drawing !

I understand completely, but of course your work speaks for itself.

So, it appears I stand corrected about the nightstand portrait. I am also touched that I noticed the reference to Toulouse-Lautrec before anyone else. His work done at the Moulin Rouge was what drew me to his style and was 1 factor that brought out my appreciation for the can-can.

Once again, I love your latest drawing, keep up the good work.

Wow, I love how much character you've managed to convey through just their expressions and posture. And the murky atmosphere is exactly what I always picture when I think of the Victorian period!

I love all the details of the background/room. Her stare and posture are inviting, sexy and a little naughty but I can definitely see her capturing the attention of many gentleman. The way he looks back at her and how she has a photo of him in her mirror makes me see a story here that's waiting to be told.

666Bruno In reply to LaTaupinette [2013-03-28 18:52:45 +0000 UTC]

je peux me permettre ?
