Description One of the most emblematic plants of Norway, is the Lyng. (The name is pronounced "lynn", where the y is somewhere between the German ü and the English i as in pin.)
Particularly in Northern Norway, as to the east of Tromsø there is a whole area of mountains called the Lyngen Alps - after the beautiful little Lyng, though I didn't know at first.
However I had visited the Lyngen Alps two years before, on my first stay, it was in Winter so I never had the chance to meet the little fellow back then.

So I was really delighted that we found them growing low on the slopes of Nattmålsfjellet.
Honestly, I was equally surprised, too, to find out the Lyng is actually the well-known Heather.
In fact it's a plant that grows all the way to Bulgaria, too. Who would know

Calluna vulgaris, Heather.

30.09.2018, Nattmålsfjellet (296 m).
