Description A revamp of Onua to go with Tahu and Kopaka. I realised I had the pieces to make him, but sadly, this has to be the last, because I do not have enough of the single 2m technic levers left, let alone any color but black and red.

Yes, I did cheat, I trimmed down some pieces to create pieces which Lego could've easily distributed, but didn't because I assume it was inpractical. Also, do not ask for instructions, I'm not providing them. I'm providing a parts list for Tahu alone, and that'll be in a journal.

I have no idea anymore lol.Β  Onoa isn't entirely assembled anymore, and it's been 5 years since the rerevamp was made.Β  If it turns out the setup for the neck is still together when I look at it next, I'll be sure to reply explaining how it works.

Fair enough. Lol

I was just looking over the design again and how I put it together and it seemed his head poked outward too far.

out of curiosity, does he have a working gear system?

No, none of the old revamps or new revamps have working gears.Β  The new one's (which this one is not one of) back gears still twist when you twist them, but they don't work anything else.Β  I'd have to rid of a great deal of arm articulation to compensate it, and IMO, interestingly nostalgic though it may have been, it's a pointless gimmick on an articulated toy.

Taqresu650 In reply to Lalam24 [2015-10-14 01:59:01 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I was just curious because this shot of Onua shows gears in their normal place. The only problem I had with the gears were their lack of friction (which the 2015 sets solved). They did give more range of motion to the original sets, but Gravity worked against posing. The new 2015 look cool with the gears, but the gear system isn't quite as helpful when you can articulate the arms just as well without them. Some of the functions I do enjoy are those like the Bohrok or Pewku. Even Skull Basher and Skull Scorpio has some fun functions.

Very nice! I might have to ask my mom about using tools to cut up some pieces (Been thinking about making a Toa Onua revamp myself along with a Toa Gali one as well)

Crap! My message got set before I finished

Anyways, I liked how you cut up some of the original parts to make new ones and I want to do that but my design will be original

A 2L lego ABS bar?Β  Your average lego ball sockets are more likely to break than those.

The ones with the cylinders and pins are not, the ones with the pins alone CAN be, but it depends on the batch you get.Β  Usually if the mold is off, it'll be much more tight.Β  However I manually tighten them, for the most part.

These revamps are awesome. I never liked how rigid the original sets were. I'm going to try and build this, only without mutilating pieces.

Thanks for posting this.

Onua was actually my first lego set. My grandpa had to build him for me, I panicked because I didn't know he was supposed to be a hunch back. Anyways, it's great to see a revamp of him. He doesn't get enough love.

BTW, if you ever got one of the ~500 piece "tubs" that they had at one point, the second one to be exact, it had, like, two dark grey 2m technic levers, one light blue one, and one "burnt orange" (more like orange brown), which there were also two of in the Jaller and Gukko set.

Lalam24 In reply to BionicleLover [2013-03-09 03:02:37 +0000 UTC]

You can just order them online from bricklink. I knew they made grey, I just didn't care to order any.

They do not make any green or lime green, though.

ok, what exactly did you change so as to get Onua's head lower than the others'? I regret having to say this, but, could you get a pic of a back view up, or have you dismantled him yet? on another thought, for pohatu you could sort of turn the main body upside down, I guess... like some people, I dislike the concept of breaking/ cutting pieces, because that is "lego abuse" (sorry) and I am frequently taking sets apart and making new creations. I made a rather crappy portal gun once, and some Longfall boots, but I have taken them apart in the recent past. If only the lego DesignByMe thing was still up and running, but no, they closed it down January of 2012 because it was "too complicated a process for the little kiddies when it came to ordering the sets they'd created."

I forgot, and I'm too lazy to grab it right now. I probably just fiddled with sockets and balls, wouldn't be too hard to figure out. I'd rather not take more photos.

I understand people getting angry about it, but the fact of the matter is that they're imagination sets. I kitbash much more often than I build with lego, so of course that rubbed off on it. And, in turn, I made a superior product. Hell, I've actually made pieces Lego could've, but neglected to. They're making new pieces all of the time, so what's the problem with me doing the same?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BionicleLover In reply to Lalam24 [2013-03-05 15:22:26 +0000 UTC]

no problem at all. in fact, my goal is to get a job at lego designing sets, which occasionally requires designing new pieces, so i could help with that a bit. perhaps a new "Bionicle 2.0" line, with remakes of all the sets so they are more articulated?

welcometothedarksyde [2013-02-04 20:18:11 +0000 UTC]

Why did you cut the lightsaber pieces? you could have just used a minifig mallet

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lalam24 In reply to welcometothedarksyde [2013-02-04 22:46:07 +0000 UTC]

In which case I still would've had to trim something off. I thought it more productive to use one pieces for 2, instead of using a single piece that'll have a random end cut off, with no use for that end.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

welcometothedarksyde In reply to Lalam24 [2013-02-05 00:22:42 +0000 UTC]

I meant to use the hammer piece without modification. Some people don't like to modify parts so that would be a decent alternative. Plus only a little nub would stick out

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lalam24 In reply to welcometothedarksyde [2013-02-05 01:25:05 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't going for too much sacrifice, in reference to the appearance. The actual mallet is over the size, even without the end, to begin with.

I modified pieces because it was the best option, and it still is considering how much better it looks without a bunch of random mallets sticking out of his limbs.
