Description Similar to the Tahu, a revamp of Kopaka using a similar frame. I actually did more cheating on this than I did with Tahu, but again, the intent wasn't to compete with someone else, the intent was to allow myself to have good figures of these two characters. While some people think it's cheating, I simply think it's a way of making something better than it once was.

Also, do not ask for instructions, I'm not providing them. I'm providing a parts list for Tahu alone, and that'll be in a journal.

Be sure to checkout the new Tahu!Β  Bionicle - Tahu Re-Revamp

I can get behind that. Looks awesome! Original Kopaka is SOOOO hard to pose! I want one of these!

I'm planing on making a Kopaka cosplay, and I think this could help me in the design. One of my ideas is to make a Toa Mata base with his mask and weapons and have the Nuva armor clip or velcro on when I want to be Kopaka's Nuva form.

A better base would be the re-revamp I've posted, as it's much more accurate to the original. Β However, given the differences in limbs, I wouldn't do the swappable nuva form, I'd do either or. Β And no one would fault you for it, because I'm sure people would rather see the accuracy come out from one of the designs than to screw with both. Β That's just my opinion, though. Β But, again, this wouldn't be what to shoot for. Β If anything, focus on the original design exclusively.

Here is a concept I drew up. I'm not set on it, it's more idealized, but if it does work, I think it would look cool. fav.me/d9tpt85

I already have the Re-revamp faved.
Thanks for the advice. The limbs are the biggest issue I have with this idea because you're right, there are so many differences. In the set forms, only one limb pieces was shared and that switches on the arm. The shoulderpads and chest piece are a lot easier in comparison. If I wanted to make both forms (I'm not saying I have to) I probably would need to make two sets of legs and two sets of arms. I could probably keep the head, torso, and feet though. I did notice one interesting design in the Mask of Light movie though. When you look at the back of the new Nuva limbs there's more than just armor, and it does look a bit like their old limbs. Like here www.youtube.com/watch?v=i74y76… for example. At around 0:27 you see the back of Kopaka's legs. To me they look a lot like his Mata legs.
But to be honest, I would be happy just to have one of his Toa forms. I'm just saying if I do make the limbs, I wouldn't make them the same limbs (unless I can get away with the leg arrangement the movie has). I'd have to modify any of the limbs I'm left with, and the torso as well, because those limb pieces weren't designed with human cosplayers in mind. lol

I'd go strictly with the original design for details and the like, you obviously can't match proportions but you can do a much stockier version with thicker and shorter limbs. Β But I wouldn't do nuva, and not the movie design. Β The sketchup for the cosplay is neat but again redesigns to a large degree, which if you're fine with then I see no problem, I'd just keep the design largely the same aside from scaling/proportions, which obviously have to be different. Β Might want to find a friend who's obscenely thin to use as a base, too.

I understand. This is all a work in progress, and nothing is set in stone yet. At this point I'm just brainstorming ideas. Think of this sketch up as a kind of "Mark I" design. I'm already working on Mark II for this (which is more set based). I only wanted to do Nuva because the armor looked more suited for a cosplay and there's more armor. And the movie version has hands, which is a big issue. One of the things about some of the Mata limbs is that one of Kopaka's forearms is basically a + axel. the other arm (the one that holds the sword) would be a bit easier, but I have no clue what I should do there for the hand.
Interestingly, Kopaka's original set doesn't have those claw hands like most of the other Toa. The shield and sword could literally be life-sized versions of their toy (like these 3D printsΒ fav.me/d9e2gg5 andΒ fav.me/d8ze2lt the guy who made these even offered to sell me Kopaka's original blade once he makes it, but I don't have any money). As for someone obscenely thin, I think my Brother works. Imagine him like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. He can eat, and eat, and eat, but he somehow remains extremely skinny. It helps that he loves running, Track, and football (American). He also has the hair and goatie for Shaggy, but that's besides the point. The problem is I'm not skinny. I have a belly, which is one of the reasons I've postponed this project.

Welp, maybe the first best step would be to get a picture of your brother standing straight up and draw over it with a general costume idea. Β Obviously this has to be tentative as the photo won't be perspective-less, but it'll be a good general guide.

Another step I'm taking is looking around da and Google for cosplay tutorials. To put it lightly, I'm a beginner at cosplay.

Well I've never done cosplay. Β I sculpt toys but the focus is much different, especially since I've more recently pushed most of the work into joint engineering. Β So I really can't offer anymore suggestions cosplay wise. Β I mean I know proportions well but that's all person dependent cosplay wise anyway.

I understand. You do have a cool Revamp and Re-Revamp of Kopaka Mata though. As far as cosplays go, I usually just use different costume bits from different Halloween costumes. Like a fake white beard with the black robes of old costumes, and with a staff I made with a walking stick, duct tape, half of a plastic Easter egg, and I end up with an evil Sorcerer. I'm just good with craft stuff, so that's what I end up using half the time.

That's good advice. It just all depends on my brother. He's moved out of the house, but he visits once in a while. And we are like fire and ice, complete opposites of each other. He's Athletic, I'm not, he's a social butterfly, I easily get nervous around people, he's the kind to take charge when situations need it, and I usually ride the coattail of others. I have no idea if he'll pose for me (he never likes serious photo's), imagine him a bit like Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes. The biggest difference might be that his name is Kalvin (a K instead of a C). But of all the people I know, he'd be the best model. He's a couple inches taller than me, he's skinnier, and he's my brother.
And this is just a continuation of how the two of us are: He's more like Takua, I'm more like Jaller.

BTW, I am making one of all six toa. the only major problem that i'm facing is a slight shortage of 1x2 half bars and the ball joint pieces you used in the ankles and shoulders and such. i have discovered that i have a wealth of light grey ones from one of the limited edition tub things, but that was quickly exhausted. i also kind of figued out how to do pohatu. will post later.

Lalam24 In reply to BionicleLover [2013-03-02 00:34:57 +0000 UTC]

I'd say you'd have a lot of freedoms with Pohatu. I just had 0 2m technic levers that were the right color. One of the really big problems is that they don't make green/light green 2m technic levers at all. Or, this is what I remember from doing research on Bricklink.

"technic levers"? do you mean the pieces that you used for the top half of the arms? if so, they had those in the nui rama, turaga matau, and lehvak va sets.

No, it's the same as the two white pieces used on his back, with a ball in one end and a pin on the other.
