And yes: I would totally rather date a blue merman with fins for ears than one of the ridiculous excuses for vampires/werewolves that are present in that godawful series.

Look, I'm not actually that worried about what Ms. Meyer might do to merpeople. Vampires & Werewolves were known as bada** before Twilight came around, something that merpeople can't claim.
Also, Disney managed to set an incredibly stupid precedent in that area. Ursula dedicated an entire song (Poor Unfortunate Souls) to why Ariel shouldn't have took her deal, and Ariel still decided to give up everything she had known in her life to be with a man she had barely ever met? I cannot imagine how even Stephanie Meyer would to top that.
