Reference picture
A style experiment which would certainly explain my inability to settle with one way of drawing Lina's hair.
Whatever Lina wears, she always looks fabulous.
Also, asdfghj, I'll have to fix the background since it looks messy when you add contrast I didn't realize since I have low contrast on my screen D: /more excuses

It's from a novel's book cover. On that illustration, Gourry and she both, wear the same amulet on their writsts and Lina looks like that.

I remember reading an article that the author never intended for there to be any pairs and that they didn't like it when it was proposed for the anime. Either way I think Zel is more suitable.

I've spent decades discusing that issue, and even if Mr. Kanzaka never intented to make LG in the begigning of the story, the fact is he eventually DID, in novels, anime and manga. No matter if a bunch of fans like it or not. As for Zel, he just appear in some of them, so basically it's clueless.
Gourry is a sweetheart. He just does not deserve the hate and bashing that LZ fans hold against him.

Lord knows Gourry gets enough bashing from Lina. I have felt for awhile that he's gotten gradually dumber. I blame all the constant blows to the head Lina dishes out. In the first season he seemed kind of astute to certain things like when he pointed out that Lina was eating worms. He was just kind of ignorant and forgetful rather than dumb. But every season that goes by his IQ drops further and further. If I recall they actually pointed it out in Revolution. Anyway we should probably continue our convo in PMs since we've kinda hijacked the comment thread.

And I'm not about to discuss this any further than this. I am very well aware about how mean have been LZ fans towards Gourry and Amelia just because they don't agree with the canon, justifing themselves in "Gourry and Amelia are just retarded, thus Lina and Zel mean to be together" short off... So basically I'm not going to keep discussing this. It's useless and tyring.
Besides, I also am a strong supporter of ZA. It's my Slayers OTP.
BTW, read the novels. You'll find a couple of things about Gourry' stupidity.

Amelia doesn't seem retarded. She just seems to be a sentai fan. lol And my preference towards Lina and Zelgadis has nothing to do with Gourry and Amelia. It's more to do with the fact that Zelgadis and Lina connect on an intellectual level and seem to have more in common. That would make them a stronger couple. I'd actually prefer Gourry to be with Sylphiel, that is the kind of lady the man deserves. She's one of the only people that Gourry can never forget and she adores him. I wish they would stop leaving her behind, there has been plenty of situations where they really could have benefited from her upper tier white magic. I like Gourry, swordsman characters are usually my favorite type but I can't see him as the best pairing for Lina, nor Lina for him.
