Touching story, and well presented, as usual.
However two words seem to be out of place there - "sacrificed" and "memorize".
The 1st one implies some sort of deliberate decision, as in "let's get him killed, on purpose".
And the 2nd means trying to commit something to memory - as in memorize (learn) a poem.
I'm not sure what better words would be for the first case there... at least in what Leo says. I struggle to find a replacement word without changing the entire sentence or even the meaning.
In the newspaper could be "gave his life", probably.
As for the second - it's "remember" =]
