This is a shot from Petermann Island, Antarctica. It is one of the few islands where some green moss (the green-yellow coloring on the snow) is barely able to survive, growing only in the austral summer.Related content

It's not really grass. It's a moss that grows during the austral summer when the snow and ice melts.

I kept wondering that before I went...in the end it was great getting to be close to various penguins and seals and check out a couple of the research stations.
