Description [Full View Better]

Alright, bear with me that this is my first ever made tutorial for the public.

Anyway, decided to make a tutorial on making a non-pixelated adoptable. Have lately seen people making pixelated adotables, right? Well this won't be so hard for you guys to understand if you are already good with photoshop stuff.

And yes, I know most of you guys wants me to make a tutorial on how I CG my works. I will get working with that soon~! So be patient.

And yes... the bottom adotable is a Kynsu custom~! XDDDD;;;

If memory serves me right (keep in mind, this tutorial is back in 2005 o_o..), I used Photoshop for this. Paint Tool Sai wasn't released until 2008.

Cool! I've done pics like this in the past. But if I may make a suggestion, it looks better to shade with a color instead of black. Try making it a dark shade of blue, indigo, purple, brown, green, red... almost anything with tone, and setting the shadow layer to multiply.

I actually have a question, despite the oldness of this tutorial.

I usually have trouble with making adoptables in photoshop due to the whole color changing factor... like, say for instance your template adoptable is a certain color, or not even a color, such as grey.... Well, despite just what the template's color is, when I try to change the color of it, of course, using the colorizer and color replacement tools don't take the light and dark tones in consideration, therefore, if I were to want to make a dark or a light red rather than the red it gives me, well... I couldn't.

I really need help, cause it just bugs me. D:

Very helpful tutorial! ^^
If you know how to save you're pictures with all the layers so that later you can go back and color beneath the lineart, could you help me out with that? D=
thanks<33

okay, i know i bothered u alot, but i need one more thing.

how do you save your images and upload them b/c i must be doing something
wrong. When I do exactly as your tutorial does I directly save it. but then this happens when i upload it: [link]

how come urs doesnt do the fuzzy stuff? Am I doing something wrong?

kyns In reply to sarahxoxo [2006-09-17 15:00:07 +0000 UTC]

my guess is that you saved yours as a .jpg file, cuz that would explain the fuzzy/blurry stuff and making the background not transparent

save it as a .gif file if you want to have a transparent background, but you'll get pixelated edges if you don't really mind that.

sarahxoxo In reply to kyns [2006-09-17 15:12:16 +0000 UTC]

I tried "saving as" gif 5 different times and I still got the smae result ):
But I still get it transparent. I don't understand b/c my other 3 adoptables
worked fine (they were done in mspaint then opened in gimp and went transparent and saved as gif) But I tried saving it as a png and then going back and saving it as gif but still got the bluriness

iono if gimp would show in like a setting to saving the file as a gif like photoshop does, since I don't have gimp

yay ^^ this really helped me ALOT!!! I loved how you came up w/ the opacity
thing, it's alot more easier with adoptables.

Loved It <3 and yeah I already favorited it so...
I am almost done with the adopties, I only have to finish the eyes. Do you want to see the end result? Also I was wondering if it would be okay to make an adoptable for you (if you have a lupe) as a way to say thanks?

kyns In reply to sarahxoxo [2006-09-11 13:53:37 +0000 UTC]

you using seperate layers? you should have one layer be your lineart and the other be your coloring. also make sure that your lineart layer is on top of the coloring layer as well. sorry if I didn't include that info in there.
