Description so I am still sitting in a car parked by a tree
listening to the tape deck, to the mixed tape that you gave me
and to be honest, I hated most of the songs you put on there in the first place
but for the pretty look on your face,
when you play MJ, I'll do anything

but I should say "played" instead of "play" because of that eventful day
you told me I was different from then what I used to be
but what I used to be was lonely and afraid you'll never find me
and what I'm now is happy
the more things change, the more I stay the same

you told me what you wanted was a boy that plays guitar
a boy who wears chuck taylors and helps find out who you are
so I ran right out and bought an axe and tightened up my laces
I filled up thirty pages
but none of them could say just who the hell you are

now a friend told me that you bought your own guitar just yesterday
you're learning all your chords and you are practicing Green Day
I never bothered learning chords, I plucked the strings the way I liked 'em
maybe you just never liked 'em
and that's why I never want to hear you play

now you're cutting your hair short again and wearing different shoes
dating other boys, ones we'll hope you'll never lose
and when you gave me this cassette tape, it came with a little note
a little something that you wrote
you want me, but me is who you want to be
