An illustration for ''The Two Towers'' by J.R.R. Tolkien. Gandalf and Pippin on their way to Minas Tirith.I had it pointed out that Gandalf doesn't look dynamic enough compared to Shadowfax, but that's the whole point - the mearas is doing the hard job and the riders are as comfortable as in an armchair

As many others have said before me, this depicts perfectly the subject matter at hand here. It really takes me back to the magic of the first time I read the immediate ending to III, and the immediate opening of V as a young teenager. I don't think I can give much higher praise than that. Just lovely

You rarely find a picture of this scene. It's been a while since I read the books, but I remember that I was quite impressed by the way Tolkien described the speed of their journey. Your picture gives me exactly the same impression.
