Everyone else is treating the DeviantArt public to submissions so I figured I'd share my Gargoyles Group Picture project submission as well. I decided to do my little made up clan from India (which I called Bowhani clan). From left to right-
Hanuman
Ganesh
Kali
Ravana
I had alot of fun putting this together and am rather pleased with how their poses and small interactions kind of give off aspects of their personality. Needless to say it was tough to just keep it at cel-shade style (too simple!), but I tried. I am super excited to see this clan and many other gargoyles being put together for this project.

To my mind, they look so much (or possibly inspired) Indian gods that they could've been possibly mistaken for, or revered as such.

i did after i commented! i felt kinda bad for him since he's also looking at it likeΒ 'o.0' will you make some art of their relationship? i'd love to see that, i kinda imagine he's the one who talks sense into her and calms her down lol. in another work you said that ravana wanted her too, does ganesh get mad and tell him to back off? also does she have 2 sets of wings??? in another piece it looks like she does, or are those just extra flaps?

- Ganesh is something of a gentle giant, but I'm sure Kali is fully capable of telling anyone to back off
- She does have two sets of wings! Seeing as the humans they interact with named her Kali, I always figured it was due to the fact she had multiple limbs- much like the goddess herself!

and yes you definitely need to draw more gargoyles!! you have some of the best designs i've ever seen, i never would have thought about indian gargoyles or about making them look like indian gods. are there any other indian gargoyles that look like some of their other gods and demons in you head cannon?
also i just realized that ganesh can't fly XDD teeny weeny wings!

This clan from India is prett darn cool. Assuming if Disney ever bring back Gargoyles to the light of day , they could use this as an idea.

My favorite episodes were always the world tour Goliath and Elisa took on the skiff to meet other gargoyle clans. A definite shame they didn't explore India. It seems like such an ideal place for gargoyles lore!

I'm usually not a big fan of OCs, but I actually really like these guys' designs. Very interesting and very diverse, with plenty of detail to boot.

Wowza! thank you so much! I personally love OC's and enjoy seeing the fans creativity with garg designs as well as expanding on the universe and what fans wanted to see. For me, India would've been a rad place to see gargoyles.

This has always been one of my favorite OC clans (why I hadn't faved this before is beyond me!). I love their poses, their interactions with each other, and how their personalities shine from each of them. So much love

The little yellow one (Hanuman) is definitely my fav. So glad you like it!
I can't definitively say how Indian folk would think of gargoyles, but they sure do look alot like the demons and creatures in their mythology.

I always loved it when the series showed off gargoyles in other countries- my personal fav was 'The Green', but I agree. Seeing a spin off in India would be mega rad.
