"V. THE HIEROPHANT - Create an image inspired by the assignments of a current or past teacher, art or otherwise."

My high school art teacher had an assignment for us once that was similar to using a scratchboard. (except instead of a board we used paper colored with crayons and then covered in a special paint that we could scratch off with nails) I've been wanting to try that kind of technique for a while.

The character here is from another story I'm working on, which is kind of a mishmash of all the TERRIBLY AWESOME dreams I've had over the years. She doesn't have a name yet but the people in this universe call her "The Harpy" (even though she isn't really one)

She has a "Contract of Transformation" which allows her to change form. She was human once but has lost her means of returning to that life. She's not the main character though, more of a McGuffin of sorts.

Oh and before some smartass points it out, THE MOON IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT. In the universe that this story takes place in the moon does not become smaller because of shadows, it literally disappears during the new moon and then gradually reappears. That's why you can see stars through it. It's also freaking huge.

This sounds like a pretty awesome story concept IMHO, even if it doesn't follow The Harpy herself. I think the decision to leave the area of her shadow as a long untouched line works pretty excellently.

(Also I am totally cool with the idea of how the moon works in that universe. I have a soft spot for ridiculous fantasy world moons.)

I really love the sense of depth you've given here, scratchboard was always difficult for me ;;; This looks as if it's a really nice chalk-pastel drawing. The stars look really great too.
