You're TL Arens right? I have to look for the story. Heh.
We love to make Roddy suffer. It's fun. We wouldn't do it if we didn't love him so much.

Ouch! He looks like hell! I hope he'll be ok. Any clue if there's going to be anything more involving Midnight and those rascals, the other sentinels? Art or otherwise? Beautiful art by the way!

Thank you!! I want to get back to the Sentinel stories, but it'll take a bit of time yet-I'm currently working on writing/outlining 4 stories right now for my own universe. However, it might not be such a bad idea to get back to Sentinel Arc for a short reprive before plunging into the Maelstrom/DSR cross-over.
Good idea!

Hang on, Roddi! Optimus is on his way!
I love this scene it just speaks volume. I can just feel the pain Roddi's feeling and Optimus's urgency to reach him in time.
What tools did you use for the coloring, because it looks like water colors blending.

I just took a closer look at your picture and realized something.
Who's behind, Optimus?

SWEET! I'm delighted you noticed! That's supposed to be Physix who helps Op get Roddi out in Chapter 10.

Thank you! Not enough Roddi pics out there, are there? Optimus gave me grief, but I managed to circumvent his mischief. And yeah, Roddi needs a series break. But like Illmatar, I have no intention of being that nice. He'll just have to take my medicine . . . er, yeah. 0.0

LOL I'll certainly enjoy it! She'll keep him either in or out of line! Heh, not a lady to cross, that's for sure! While I did not want to copy Illmatar's Lancer, I know that Roddi wouldn't be happy with a girl who's more concerned about her nails and her hair than she should be. He needs a gal who can keep up with him and reign him in when he needs it.

The fact that academic writing is such a, well, bore, is one of the things that keeps me from seriously thinking about doing a PhD: if the subject is interesting, then I *love* the process of researching and gathering information, but the process of then putting everything on paper, in academic-style writing, is just too unappealing for me; I use to want to be a journalist, but journalistic writing needs you to get to the point and be precise (and I wouldn't be very good at that cause I tend to 'wander' a bit too much when I write, kinda like the authors you mention ) Tolkien, I've only read one book of his ("Hobbit") and I have seen the LOTR trilogy: my bf has the trilogy books, so I'm eager to set my teeth in them! (It's all in English; for years I was a bookworm, but mostly read Greek literature, or foreign literature translated in Greek) Btw, you can yammer all you want, I enjoy our conversations!

According to Julia Cameron, who wrote "The Right to Write" academic writing is stilted, unappealing and forced. It requires all your sentance structures to stand like soldiers at attention, stiff and overly-disciplined. She totally shreds academic writing and throughout her book repeats how that is not writing at all. I agree with her to the point that I have the grammer check on my WordPerfect program turned off. I know how to write sentances-and I know how to break the rules (but I still have several grammer books available on hand)
As for journalism, I loved the class because it taught me how to cut away the fat. Eliminate double prepositions, or prepostional phrases altogether. There's another book I have yet to read called "Writing down the bones", which gets to the matter of the subject, keeping it simple before you dress it up. The first several lines in Chapter 9 of DSR were constructed in simple sentances before I dressed them up.
I love Tolkien. He puts you there in the middle of the moment (although Tom Bombidale had NOTHING to do with the rest of the story) Tolkien taught me the value and beauty of narrative; an art that is lost to journalism, lost, all too often in the over-edited, stilted publishing world. Reading is boring to most people because the publishing industry practices mediocrity in editing and promotes bad writing as the norm.
Tanith Lee, Robert Jordan, and yes, the great Stephan King are all bad examples. (King goes WAAAAY overboard, drags things out) Dean Koontz is a good writer. I also liked Harlan Ellison.

I sure agree with Julia Cameron about academic writing in all accounts; it's just too dry and not fun at all, to the point that it makes you wanting to give up either reading it (or writing) it altogether *sigh* I'll look up her book
I actually never had a course in journalism, which would probably explain my kinda "all-over-the-place" writing...I have actually done only academic writing in the last years (In the past we'd have writing composition in school; in grade school it would be something easy like "Where I went for holidays" or "describe your favourite animal", but in high school we'd have essays like "is technology harming our culture" (?!?) or "your opinion on addiction problems" etc. We were (implicitly) told that most subjects had to be dealt with including what the school, the parents and society at large can do to improe the situation. It was as uninspiring and boring as academic writing, and I hated it. So no, I've never done real story writing... (in case I ever decide to, I'll check the "Writing down the bones" book )
I'll get down to reading Tolkien And you are write when you say that narrative is often lost in modern journalism due to extensive editing (I mean, I get the "lose the fat" part, but some pieces of journalism seem as if they're all bones and no fat whatsoever, which doesn't make for appealing reading) If I ever come across the writers you mention (Koontz and Ellison) I'll give them a read
