2/5, gift drawing for a friend. I started doing these as a set during Christmas but I didn't really like how they were turning out, not fitting together, and it became hard for me to work on them. But now I'm going to do these for warm-ups before commission work.

Looks great I like how you mixed the blurry parts and the definition on ther face and hair. The look in her eyes is as deranged as in the original art (and this is meant as a compliment ^^¡)

Thank you! It's kind of a speedpainting shortcut I use to get a variety of depth really quickly. Blur the image and paint over, basically!

As I do not know anything about digital painting, this sounds like a witty trick

I caught on to it from watching concept artists do speedpaints, it lets them cheat background elements by being much looser than usual, and roughly drop in detail stamps. I think I use it as a crutch now, though. >_<'

Hum... the more I learn, the more it seems that artists life is a little bit about little tricks to capture what they feel / the feeling or idea they want to convey. But what is art after all?

Everything is really just a tool. Commercial art is what you make of it, mostly dependent on how you wanna spend your time and getting your desired payrate from an assignment. Work is sporadic in freelance so... yeah.
But that question? That's hella subjective and basically a summary of my whole art history education. I really don't consider myself an artist after everything I've learned... rather, an entertainer, I guess, since I create the works to entertain myself and keep me from doing a boring 9-5... and the people who would consume what I create are likely also entertained, though with the over-saturation of visual media online, I assume it's only a microscopic blip of attention until the next cat video kicks in. The word "art" attached to "concept art" or "commercial art" is all commodity in my head, because you begin to get into what artifacts and sentifacts would be, the value of art and creating art and the decline of singular thought and strive for self-understanding and "expression"(overused and misused term when referring to art).

I am not an artist myself to be honest, not even an art student. I agree with the commodification of art these days and the commodification of society as a whole, more like it.

I am not sure if you implied something "negative" by calling yourself an entertainer, but I would say it is a lovely profession, attached to some romantic daydream probably At least art to you is about creating something beautiful that somehow pays a service both to you and the consumer

I just mean that the title "artist" is such a narcissistic and misused term, that I tend to separate myself from it. Especially to quiet the people who would say "that's not real art" or "you're not a real artist."
