Description Taken at Ripley's Aquarium, Toronto. I remember eating one in a restaurant, then seeing this one looking at us. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm not sure how one can manage to kill something that looks at you this way.

Beautiful picture! I love cuttlefish

I wouldn't eat one because they are just as smart, if not smarter, than cats. An impressive feat for something that lives about one year and is a terminal breeder.
I also don't like the idea of eating things that - while alive - maintain territories, because that means their numbers in the wild are going to be lower than many other species even at full capacity. With that type of distribution it can be way too easy to over harvest.

Yeah, I can't eat one of these little guys either. They're actually quite smart, and researchers like to have them work on puzzles and mazes in marine labs all the time. I love the creativity their little donuts-shaped brains can produce when they're promised treats of shrimp and fish, it's quite astounding to see.

And yeah, when one of this cuties looks at you with their big, drunken-W-shaped eyes, tentacles waving like tiny hands as they float.....POOF, appetite GONE. If it wouldn't get me arrested, I'd sneak into the back and rescue them all from the calamari prep and take them to the nearest aquarium.

Great photograph, by the way! The colours really show up vibrantly here, and the detail's quite sharp.

;o; They're so cute! Icould never eat things just octopuses and squid. .x. Just not my thing to try to eat.

I chose it then because it was the cheapest thing on the menu, and also I forgot that cuttlefish are related to squids. I don't really enjoy calamari either.

CloverFlowers In reply to KMourzenko [2015-04-09 19:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Understandable. :/ My sister forced me to eat something without telling me what it was, turned out to be squid. I can say..definitely dislike it. Eugh..

^^ This is a great shot though nonetheless! They're such a new color too~
