Description I couldn't resist making Laura Bailey's tiefling cleric, Jester Lavorre, my first Critical Role fan art. It was interesting to play with the unusual skin tone with the this lighting angle, but hopefully I did the character justice. Unfortunately the chosen angle made it hard to show off some of the ornamentation on her left horn, but you can see a hint of the ring there nonetheless.

I based the colors off of the character art they use for her icon during the show, rather than the animated opening. I totally thought she was various shades of purple through almost the entire project until a friend of mine confirmed that she is in fact blue. Go figure.

Anyhow, let me know what you think. Any tips, suggestions, comments, and critiques are welcome and appreciated!

Disclaimer: I’m red-green colorblind. Because of this, it’s difficult for me to tell similar shades/hues of different colors apart, and, therefore, I need to work with very limited palettes when I color pieces. For shading and highlights, I’ll start with a gray base and lighten or darken shades from there, and then add a color overlay (and, for some skin tones, attempt to add a blue overlay to make it less “hot”). I’ve often been told to be bolder in my highlighting and shading, and I’m trying to be so, but… sometimes it still seems pretty tame. I’m just saying this in case you mentioned I need to do that on a previous piece – I’m not ignoring you, and I appreciate the input. It’s just not very easy for me to implement confidently.

I think what I like best about this one are the textures - the horns, the shading in her hair that makes it feel more realistic, the cloak, the pin...it's a nice mix! And her freckles are adorable and something I feel we don't often see in non-human skin tones.

I have to admit I love working on horns like this. It's not a small part of the reason I draw so many demon girls. I can't say exactly why, but there's just something fun about the texture and coming up with ways to make them different from previous sets.

Hi, I'm from ProjectComment

I'm not familiar with the show so i just googled how character orriginally looks like. The skin tones looks quite accurate for her originall design. But she seems to have a bit different face feautures like more uppturned nose, almond-shaped eyes, curlier hair, longer eyelashes and the like. The character on this art herself is pretty but when it comes to do a fan art of some other character you need to maintain similarities between them. Not only colors, clothes but face features too. I know it's not always easy to do it very exactly since i do this thing sometimes when it comes to do a fanart, but we all need to keep making better From more technical side-shadowing and lighting on her face, hair and clothes are very good. same about the linear. Though the horns need some fixing. The one we can see is bit crooked while the originall character's  should be a bit more rounded. The piece of the second one doesn't look very similar to it. Looks like it should be less visible or not at all, considering how the first one looks like. Summing up, the artwork technically is gorgerous despite a few flaws i wrote but it's needed to try giving more resemblence to the originall character

Thank you for taking the time to comment, and for pointing out both what was done well and what could use work. I really appreciate it!

I really love how nicely the different types/shades of blue blended together, especially on the eyes. I also really like how you shade/color the hair, and the way you did the freckles make her look adorable! Overall, I think you did great!

Thank you for taking the time to say so! Because I can't see colors really well, it's an undying worry of mine that they don't look as smooth to others as they do to me.

This looks awesome! Also seems like with every new piece your skills with drawing hair and the outfit keep soaring... I adore the intricacies and dimensions you're adding lately. Her hairstyle is very complex, yet the shadows and highlights look perfect! And the folds in the fabric are exceptional as well. Another fantastic one, Kevin!

Thank you, sir! I really needed to hear this tonight (it was one of those bad art nights where nothing you try works out well). I loved working on her hair, so I'm really glad you think it turned out well. I've yet to get thick bangs to look how I'd like them to, but I'll keep trying. And I have to admit to cheating on her cloak a bit -- it started out as being more of a bust, but I couldn't get it to look right so I lifted the cutoff closer to her shoulders.

Thank you, sir!

Jester's a fantastic character. Laura Bailey really brings her to life, and then people with far greater ability than me wind up animating bits and pieces here and there:

100% -- made sure to jump on the Kickstarter, too (not that they needed my help).

That Kickstarter campaign broke records! 😄 I gotta wonder if they'll put it on a streaming service or just on YouTube to make it easier.

I honestly don't know... It'll be interesting to see whether they try to find a way to make it available to kickstarters exclusively first, but I'd think Youtube or Twitch would be the easiest way to distribute it. Then maybe a network or Netflix will want to get in on a season 2.

Maybe Hulu or some of the others could work. I know that VRV has been getting some interesting shows so Critical Role could be a good series for that streaming service to have.
