Description Yield... now here's an interesting word; it can mean both surrender and reward, defeat and gain.

The finger extensions are just plates of gold rolled to form a thin point... of course, I used artistic license on how they are worn here. Despite the way they are portrayed in this painting, they are not intended to be used as pointy weapons -- they break very easily (Today, they are only available in brass or copper and not gold... ah, the good ol' days!)

I started this back on March 24, 2006. Almost a year later I found the file loitering around my computer and had the urge to finish it -- I was in for a trip...

----------Edit----------
Can't believe I didn't mention this -- 2AM in the morning sucks me dry!

Those gold extensions are used only for traditional Thai dances (typically for Manora, the Kinnari [bird-woman] princess... as the lead character, she needs the hottest talons).

The background is a temple setting with gold leaf representing reverence and sacredness. When you enter the temple, only after you have purified yourself and whisper a prayer can gold leaf be put on your forehead as a blessing. It's usually placed by a monk or an elder.

Temple dancers favored by the heavens. They are the ultimate form of 'thank you card'. If you pray at the temple and your wish is granted, it is common to sponsor a dance... the greater your wish, the better the dancers ought to be.

I was painting a royal temple dancer -- messenger to the gods -- donned with gold. On her forehead is the vague gold leaf imprint of the country of Thailand.

....Now how did I forget all that?

No ref for this one, I thought it would be a quickie... was wrong... Here's the steps if you're interested:

Another remarkable piece crafted brilliantly by you. Truly an intriguingly remarkable piece that you have crafted. Dazzled by your works.

Fav'd this, too.

Oh, and for the talon jewelry... does it only come in the goldish colors, or are there also silver & white gold ones? Curious about these, too.

This looks great. Did you use a Wacom tablet? I am looking into create images with this particular feel with the colors, lighting, depth, etc. but I'm not sure the best way to go about beginning; paint or tablet...Any suggestions or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

She is intense. As amazing as all the gold is, it is her hair that is most appealing and incredible. It seems almost touchable and adds more to her allure.

The lighting and reflections are also sharp and eyecatching.

s to Andy!

I had the gold look *really* gold once... but it was so unrealistic, so I changed it to little bright spots and it made much more sense. I'm glad it actually *looks* like gold leaf now.

As usual, a very beautiful piece. I love how her hair sweeps over her chest and arm...It adds to soften her almost warrior/priestess-like pose. Her eyes are simply exquisite!

I only use photoshop so I do hair by base color then using the hair brush and then a hard round brush. Always blur before your next layer of hair. Let me know if I can help.

The gold leaf was the hardest to portray. Despite people telling me there should be a more greens and reds on the gold to make it look realistic... it just doesn't work the glowing affect I wanted. Glad you like it, by the way.

Very awesome. Oh so very awesome. I saw those dancers so I knew despite of the lack of information at first. I was only... 5 or something though. xP The first time I went to Thailand. Or maybe I it was the second time. Then I was 7.
Anyhoooow, I love how you managed to make the gold-leaf really shine and look like real gold-leaf. And of course all the other parts are awesome too, but that's what stands out.
