He looks... gone, like his soul got sucked into the TV.

This is very awesome. It's like it's a part of a story.. yet it seems so surreal, so odd.

Looks like (to me) he was watching some sort of disaster news coverage on TV, something around the lines of Haiti...

The amount of people saying comments thinking that only something like Girls Gone Wild could capture an old mans' undivided attention scares me. This is what's happening to people, wow we're so doomed..

Anyways, great photo! I wasn't expecting to actually really like it, but then I remember that we all do get kind of engrossed by some things we watch on the TV and go into that blank stare.
Off course, for some of us here we'd probably be staring at a computer instead! XD

hah thanks for the encouraging words... I got a wee bit bummed when I noticed all the remarks that he's probably watching porn... Must be just about the last thing I would've expected...! but still, can't take the sweetness away from my first DD

This is an incredible picture! I love the lighting and the subject... it's sad in a sense, but I find myself drawn to it. It also seems very natural, which adds to the emotion, I think. Excellent job

(on another note, judging by his expression I'd say he's watching LOST )

My grandpa watches tv like that sometimes, usually because he's thinking about something else.

Nice capture!

Wow... this is a particularly powerful piece; the hypnotism in his eyes, the blank "turned off" aspect really sends chills down my back every time I look at it.

It's interesting to see how natural this shot looks taking in mind that it must have been taken from a short distance.

hehe, i could take a macro shot of my sisters (young) when they're watching tv, they wouldn't notice me at all.

Nice!

You'd say that a lot of people would notice it though if you make a picture from this angle.
It must be the television distracting him. ;]

~klemmern , i'm sorry if DDing this led to a bunch of people only seeing "porn" as the thing he's be watching,... i really didn't expect that.
I hope you won't be annoyed too much.

Proof to what Television does to your mind.

This is an incredible picture, it really makes you say, "Whoa..".

It's also fairly saddening, perhaps it's the colors that're in the picture itself, but I'm sure that it's the man's expression that really connects to the viewer.

Excellent photo.

The classic TV zombie expression X-)

I get so embarrassed when people walk in and catch me totally entranced in a show or video game and making that face. If they took a picture of my zombified expression I'd have to battle them for the camera to delete it

Here in the UK we've recently been switching over to digital, and a lot of elderly people have lost the ability to watch their TVs because they don't know how to work them or retune them. It sort of reminds me of that, about losing a link with the outside world which may well be the only one these people have out of fear of today's society.

It's powerful and thought-provoking.

lol yeah, my gran is so stupid she can't work the TV now, so we put her in a home.

Anyway this is a great photograph, I love it. A bit grainy, but none the less good.

Don't you feel just a little ashamed saying that? Think of how much the world has changed since they were young - a world in which few people even had a phone, to the Internet and five hundred plus channels on the average TV in under a century. It's understandable that old people are confused by modern technology, sad that you think them stupid because they weren't born with these things at the tips of their fingers.
