Description I'm starting to miss my dog, Toddy. :[

Plus I was itching to sculpt something, so I made a figurine of him. I really like how it came out, but I wish I could have made it smoother. P: Not sure how to do that. And I just realized that he doesn't sit like this. Not exactly. He has a really weird way of laying down sometimes, where his legs go straight back and the weight is on the tops of his toes, but I forgot that and just sculpted his feet splayed out. Oh well. It's a puppy Toddy. He was more flexible then.

You can't really tell from the photos, but all his little toes are sculpted. I coated him in a matte medium, and did his eyes, nose, and claws with a glossy medium, so they're very shiny. But he's kind of sticky. It isn't as bad as before I added the matte, but it's still kind of annoying. Does anyone know how to fix that?

super awesome
did you manage to sort out the stickiness?

Not really. I still haven't done much experimentation. Though a recent acrylic painting has the same problem of stickiness, so it is something I need to mess with again. Do you have anything to recommend?

It's beautiful, how the hell you get the expressions like that in a tiny model, I'll never know. xD

I've got a nice little wooden pick to poke and scrape the clay into place. XD But mostly I think it's luck, at least in this case.

Thank you! XD And I know what you mean. My last sculpture sat in the drawer half-finished for most of a year.

Yeah, Mine's currently sat on my desk. I have no draws or anything to put it away. Plus it's taking up valuable Dumping space D: I have no where to dump all my old drawings. XD teehee its actually all over my floor. Which isnt a good idea as their getting stooden on .... yeah ... oops.

Yeah... sorry for rambleing

Haha! XD All the more reason to finish it. Then you can "display" it instead of dump it.

CrimsonCatFish In reply to KlakKlak [2009-09-19 10:36:49 +0000 UTC]

But dumping is my speciallity D:

But I suppose, It'd gathering dust even with a layer of cling film over the top

Eek thats bad. D: But I have a tendicy to pet mine. (Becasue I'm strange, I like the character and its the best sculpture I've done) So I suppose, the dust would be none exsistant XD

Haha. XD That's a lovely solution. ... Ah boy. I just broke off this guy's front leg. >> I was balancing him on top of my Klak Klak sculpture while watching Xena. There were a bunch of giants crashing around, and the bass shook my desk to the point that Toddy fell onto the concrete floor. e.e I've just glued it back on. But yeah. >> If you're ever tempted to balance one sculpture on top of another. Don't.

Indeed it is. Indeed it is. Hehe XD.
Uh oh. D: Is it okay? The crack; is it nocticeable?
Thats one trick in the book I won't be trying XD But my balanceing skills are just as good as my tiding up skills. And they are bad. XD

Well, it fit together pretty good. I think once I paint over it, it'll be okay. X'D

Thank you. ^^ I like working small because it saves materials, but it can be tricky to get the details.

Yes, that is true. Though still even with small sculptures shows your talent and skills.

I'd suggest getting a clear-coat spray. Just spray it over and when it dries, it should make it non-stick and waterproof without messing him up. <3

KlakKlak In reply to sotee [2009-09-15 17:52:08 +0000 UTC]

Oooh, that's a good idea. Is a clear-coat the same as a fixative? P:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sotee In reply to KlakKlak [2009-09-15 21:32:38 +0000 UTC]

I don't think so. XD Usually the ones i find are a polyurethane spray. You can find them in high-gloss and low-gloss. Uhm. Call a home depot and ask? XD

Hmmm I don't know how to fix that, I guess you could always do another coat of that stuff that made it stick a lil' less? He's very cute in any case. My friend has three jack russels and sometimes they sit weird like this lol. JRTs are such funny dogs.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KlakKlak In reply to Falcolf [2009-09-15 17:51:17 +0000 UTC]

I dunno. :\ I think it's the coat that's sticky, not the stuff under it. But someone mentioned a spray that might work. And jack russels are awesome. XD Iono, mine is sort of a freak in terms of meeting breed standards, but he's all the better for it.

I might eventually. But I want more experience first. And there are plenty of awesome tutorials already that explain everything I do. XD I think... Though I treat the oven like a save button, and I'm not sure how common that is.
