Ok, this is going to be deep, so hang with me folks! This Autumn I spent a lot of time at Kebler Pass outside of Crested Butte, Colorado. I've never been down there before and I was honestly just left floored with my mouth left on the floor much of the time. It had been a long time but health issues always made it a no go but due to having surgery a year ago this this past January, I was able to finally get here. I remember sitting in a hospital bed for almost a month and thinking about how this was all I wanted to do and where I wanted to go, constantly. It was a driving factor in inspiration to make some serious waves and do whatever it took to get here. I went for broke. Literally. Sometimes though you have to if you want your dreams to come true. It's not easy trying to make it on print sales at all, trust me. So here I stood. in the morning drizzle, in the middle of a dirt road, surrounded by the most incredible Aspen trees I had ever seen. The distant sound of a camera shutter could be heard as it echoed, for all who were here were photographers. Not many people and many photographers view this sort of weather as bad. I never have and I actually prefer it myself. I set up the shot, took a deep breath and I reflected for a minute, rather deeply. My mind flashed back to the days I sent in the hospital some 9 months earlier, with a 4 and a 1/2 foot incision, the pain I was in, the people who helped me, all my nurses, my CNA's and my physical therapists and how *this* was my goal and yet here I was, standing in the middle of it. I teared up as I clicked the shutter.
(To my doctors, nurses, CNA and physical therapists reading this right now-- Look! I did it! And I owe you a huge thanks for helping me acheive it!!!!!!)
