yep,most of the people in da community is really stupid,many of them are not even artists,they are not original and they´re only interested in see boobies,"kawaii desu",and fanart of some popular series or whatever.
truly sad.
and they´re not picky,they´re too basic to understand a true piece of art,as you can see they can accept the most horryifing piece of shit that contains boobs,hentai or i don´t know,and they will eventually LIKE IT

What gets me is that you can do absolutely everything to improve your art. The problem being that nobody in a fifteen digi-mile radius of DeviantArt could give a shit.
Now, it's unfair to say it's true over *all* of DA. There's plenty of skilled folks out there who get reverence by just being astounding with art. However, what *is* true is that those sort of stories are outliers to the real truth: Making erotica or references to Nerd and Weeb culture is the only way to make it past the 5000 pageview mark in a reasonable amount of time.

I totally get what you mean. I've seen talented people on deviantART who don't get a lot of recognition because their art doesn't always focus on things relevant to today's culture and media, while there are others who have gotten millions of pageviews from drawing very average comics where they whine about how shitty some new video game is. From what I've seen, artists are often overlooked because their art isn't "creative" enough, even if they are very skilled. A picture of some mysterious, otherworldy creature will most likely get more views than, say, a portrait of a dog. I feel as if subject is favored over technique on this site, which in some cases could be okay, but the subjects people choose to draw and look at don't always impress me.
I think a lot of people on deviantART try to appeal to others rather than strive to improve their skills. I'll admit that I've done just that on occasion, though I still see the importance of using one's own creativity and expanding horizons in terms of influence. Originality and good technique/application are, in my opinion, the two most important aspects of art, but I seldom see art on here with either.

I agree with you on your statement: That subject > technique on DA. In fact, I think that's the norm.
It's part of the brainless teenage belief that in order to be notable, you need to be "unique" and "creative". Which is probably why people who do those awful sparkledogs, or "generic anime fan #15" get far more pageviews than the reincarnation of John Constable. Frankly, if someone pointed me to such a reincarnation, I would possibly worship him.

It's a shame, knowing that no matter what you do, you won't become over-the-top famous on this website (or gain *any* notoriety, in most cases) unless you bend over and allow yourself to take it from every fantard with an account.
This is why I'm not in it for the pageviews. I'm just here to host art, and laugh at Weebs.
