Description         Chapter 1-

Ginny slipped through the forest, silently she hoped. The slightest noise could mean life or death in this part of the forest. Ginny knew, she knew she was risking everything for nothing; but it’s not nothing, she repeated the third time that night. The nagging voice in the back of her mind wouldn’t be silenced though, the voice that she had once called instinct but now ignored as much as she could. He’s a perfect stranger, it called in a sing song voice.

That was true at least. Ginny heard of Malfoy, knew where he lived, knew his families morals, their beliefs, she’s even exchanged insults with him more than once. But she didn’t know him, what made him tick, what made him laugh, his favourite foods, what subjects he was good at. But most of all she wanted to know why she needed to know the answers to those questions. Something about him drew her in, the need to hug him to soothe him, until he stopped hurting, stopped hurting himself, and stopped hurting others.

Though Ginny didn’t know what that something was; was it his looks, partly he had looked in all senses of the word like an angel, or at least a fallen angel but it was something more, it was the way he had looked at her as he said those two simple words, the words she fell asleep hearing ‘thank you’ everyone had said those words at one point but the sincerity in the way he had said it made her heart ache. He looked at her, for the first time all of her life someone had looked at her, not just a passing glance or a look that never saw her, just saw a Weasley to be despised by all Slytherins or just Ron’s little sister to be protected by all Gryfindors, or a perfect daughter that everyone adored. He had seen her, imperfections and all. Ginny knew she was reading too much into that look but in a way she was grateful.

Ginny Weasley was finally having an adventure, those usually reserved for her brother, Ron or Fred and George, even Bill and Charlie were off having their own adventures, having exciting jobs in different countries. At least Percy was having a boring life like her.

Except her life wasn’t so boring anymore, not since last night. He had passed a note to her in the great hall, she had poured the cereals and their it was, now Ginny pondered how it had gotten there at the time she had been so excited she had opened the note hastily, almost tearing it in her haste.

Forbidden Forest, 12:00, near the centre.

Now Ginny had been walking for an hour and had still not found ‘the unicorn’s lair’ and was sure she he would have left by now if she hadn’t left two hours early. She saw a silver light peaking through the trees, like Draco’s hair, excitement bubbled in her chest. She picked up her pace, hoping to talk to him, to understand him. She pushed through the clearing, and stopped at the sight in front of her.

Draco was sitting in the middle of a clearing, that looked very much like the meadows Ginny had read about in books, luminous white and yellow flowers were sprouting up from the long grass, creating small patches of light on the wild green and yellow grass. He was leaning on a large white horse with a silver horn sprouting from his forehead. Ginny saw a few more lounging about but her eyes were firmly on the resting Draco.

He truly was an angel, his white hair falling over his closed eyes. His lips curved into a small smile, obviously dreaming of something happy. He was wearing his school uniform, his tie loose, three of his top buttons undone, and his shoes were lying next to him, his socks stuffed into them, allowing him to feel the grass beneath his feet. His hair was glowing slightly in the light the unicorn’s horns and manes gave off.

As Ginny watched his eyes flickered open slowly, he must have heard her, his face froze into a mask, his eyes portraying no emotion, what happened? he’s the one that wanted me to come here not the other way around, Ginny thought angrily, his eyes scanned the clearing and Ginny realise she was early he probably thought she was a dangerous creature or something. Ginny took a step into the light allowing him to see who she was, a relieved smile spread across his face as he stood slowly.

“Hey.” He called softly, rising to his full height. Ginny smiled at him unsure whether or not it was safe, as if reading her thoughts “Come here, it’s perfectly safe.” Ginny walked forward, till she was standing knee deep in grass, standing in front off him.
“Why are you being so nice?” She wondered out loud, to which he just shrugged in response.

“I guess, I wanted to repay the favour you gave me last night, I’m going to let you live again.” Ginny’s eyebrows rose, how did he know? He laughed; Ginny was seriously wondering whether or not he could read her thoughts “I’ve seen you, watching on the famous Golden Trio, never a part, just like me. I know you’re bored I see it on your face in the mornings and I suppose when I saw you this morning, with I dunno, a spark, I wanted to show you this.” He raised his arms and walked around in a small circle.

“What is this place?” She asked slightly amused by his antics and a little sad that a stranger had been able to tell she was bored when her own brother was oblivious.

“My haven, when it all gets too much I shout at Potter, that becomes a problem in the middle of the night, so I went walking, and found this place.” He smiled slightly.

“You just ‘went walking’ in the Forbidden Forest?” She asked unbelievingly, frowning slightly.

“In my first year I had to come in the Forbidden Forest as a punishment, with Potter, Granger and Weasel with that big oaf Hagrid. I sort of,” He raised his arm to run it through his hair shyly, scowling with his next words “ well I ran away, I bet they all laughed at me. Well even my eleven year old self knew that would not do, so I came out here the next week and wandered till I got lost. I found this little champ here.” He said stroking the now standing unicorn “She showed me this place, and then helped me get home. She really is something special.”

While Ginny processed all this information, Draco sat back down, his legs covered by the grass. “But, why are you telling me all of this?” It just didn’t seam realistic, her worst enemy after Voldemort would suddenly confine in her, tell her things she was sure no one else knew.

“Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to have a friend. A proper friend you confide with, help and get helped back. I thought that if I helped you, you would help me, I mean I confided in you so we’re friends now, right?” He said looking up at her. She nodded numbly

“So you’ll help me.” He said carefully. She nodded again knowing with dread that she would regret this later. “I need a…mentor. I’m failing astronomy, and I heard you’re rather good at it.” Ah, it all made sense now he would rather have her help him, a Weasley, so he would get grades, technically he was using her but he wasn’t if she knew he was , was he? It was all so confusing, it was times like these when she realised why the Sorting Hat had placed where it did, and she was utterly useless at thinking on her feet, much less when faced with a cunning Slytherin. She decided that the best option was to just keep nodding. He nodded back, stood up, brushed his trousers and walked away before Ginny had time to ask the question she had wanted to ask all day.

She collapsed on the wonderfully soft grass. So Draco was going to have her be his ‘friend’ so she could help him with Astronomy, but it had to be more than that he could have paid any Ravenclaw to do that.

He also had shown her this place, his haven, why? Then a thought struck her, she was thinking too much like any Gryffindor, too honest, she had to be think like a Slytherin, he had to have a motive. She had seen him in a vulnerable position, she now knew probably his deepest secret, by being friends under this ‘friend’ thing, he could keep a close eye on her and have her help him get good grades, keep an eye on her because she knew. Knew he hurt himself.  While all she got in return was excitement, adventure and this haven. To her she was winning but to him he obviously thought he was.

Now all she had to do was figure out why he was hurting himself. She was no closer to answering that question, but at least she knew why he had acted the way he did today, she hoped, Slytherins had a habit of being completely unpredictable.

it was good you really did catch their characters, although ginny has a bit more of a spark in her, more of a temper. i don't think she would have left Draco just walk away from her like that. hope to see chappie two soon XD
