On December 11th, 2021, Anne Rice passed away due to complications of a stroke. She was the author of many books both religious and erotic, but she was most famous for her gothic fiction, most notably The Vampire Chronicles. I was a huge fan of Anne Rice as a teenager and as an adult I have a lot to thank her for: for guiding me in my love of horror, for creating such beloved characters, and for inspiring me to write my own works of fiction one day. Above all things, I admire her strength. Although she had many hardships–her illness, the loss of a child, the loss of her husband–she turned her heartbreak into something beautiful through her writing and became one of the most influential names in literature. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones.

Thank you, Anne, for the part you played in my teen years.
