Kin's hands were shaking while she was unsuccessfully trying to secure her arm-guards in place. Finally she could not take it any more and threw the damn pieces of iron on the floor with a clang, bursting into silent curses. How did it come to this? Were they really going to... war? Well, technically speaking, it was not a real war. They were simply trying to stop The Master's plan which could probably lead to the world's destruction, but she still knew that there would definitely be lives lost. In her memories the images of the Great War surfaced once again - the fear, the desperation, the horror and sadness. At that time she had been just a 12-year-old child and could only watch from the side while her teacher and seniors sacrificed their lives. Today she was a grown-up woman, a healer and an air-master going to the front lines, it was now her turn to protect her juniors, friends and family. But was she up to the task?
The door of the room screeched, making her flinch. In the dim morning light Salep's figure appeared in front of her, dressed in full protective gear. The Supreme master threw her a glance and his eyes paused briefly on the arm-guards lying on the floor. His lips curved in a playful smile.
"You should treat your equipment a bit more nicely. You don't know when you'll need it to save your skin."
The man picked the arm-guards up and knelled in front of the young woman. His movements seasoned and well trained, he fastened the right arm-guard in place in just seconds.
"How can you be so calm?!" Kin's trembling voice made him stop. "Aren't you even a little bit afraid? Do you have nerves of steel or something?"
"No." His tranquil blue eyes met hers. "To be honest, I too am terrified!"
"Liar."
"It's not a lie. I'm just way better than you in hiding it. But then again, I have much more experience than you in such situations, so it is normal."
All of a sudden Kin grabbed his hands, squeezing them as tightly as she could. Salep flinched, more due to surprise than pain, but her following words hit him where it hurt most.
"Promise me, you'll not overdo it. Promise me, that you won't use your second element!"
"You know I can't do that, Kin."
"Promise me! If you use it, you'll die!!"
"We will all die, eventually..."
"Stop being philosophic on me! Why don't you even want to understand? What will we do, if something happens to you?"
"Move on, I guess."
"I said stop it!" There were tears glimmering in her eyes. "Why are you always so stubborn? So eager to risk your life needlessly? Or do you like to play dumb that much? You know very well that I..."
She could not finish. Salep leaned forward and his lips gently pressed on her forehead, leaving her at a loss for words.
"I am sorry, Kin!" His warm voice was full of sorrow as he hugged her and cradled her in his arms like a little child."I am so, so sorry!"

A little moment between my darling OC's Salep and Kin at the dawn of the decisive battle. I really love these two ! I mean, both of them are so dense that they need forever to confess their feelings to each other (at this point they still have not!!! ) and when they finally do, it's almost too late!
