Description 🤓haha goofy ahh cryptozoologist reference hahahahaha 🗿

---

Muraenophids are a diverse group of serpentine choristoderes, distinguished by their long, thin bodies and heads with cephalic barbels. All have long necks and bodies, with a very compressed arm and leg bone arrangement, with a long tail. All swim in anguilloform/carangiform fashion.

This species, the Nessie, is a great example of a migrating species of deepwater muraenophid, usually living on the Scottish continental shelf. They are mostly benthic and rely on their barbels to detect prey, a great example of a textbook sea serpent.
Like other sea serpents, they migrate after breeding to give birth in lagoons, coasts, and for the Nessie, lochs.
