That is neat. How did you get your baby to do that?

My baby would never pose like that for me. She sleeps in a box. I used a photo-reference for this painting. Someone else's baby was much more cooperative apparantly. LOL

This is really beautiful. I was just watching one of my rats sleep, admiring (for the millionth time) how adorable they are when they sleep! This is photorealistic, I really love your work this!

Rats will eat anything. Including fruit. Does that help?

i was almost completely fooled as well. i can see why you would have gotten a tad lazy. that's a lot of work.
i kept looking at it saying, "is that a picture of a sleeping rat or a rat that has passed on...?" and then i read your comments later on. the tail was just a little too smooth, the body a little too stiff, but only a fraction of "a little too" and only because i have been loved by rats for too long. to anyone else, you would have them completely fooled.
fantabulous job.

Thank you so much!! Rats are misunderstood creatures. They make great pets, and they're not as dirty and nasty as you might think. In fact, they're cleaner and smarter than any other rodent. Studies have shown they're at least as intelligent as dogs and cats, if not more so. Plus, they're very very cute if you can get over the 'persona' that rats have been branded with.

You almost had me fooled there for a moment. The fur on the back and near the base of its tail looks a little rigid and unnatural. The face and hand are just exquisite, though.

I worked my way down the body from the nose to the tail, and naturally I got a bit lazy at the end. Thanks for your honesty. I'll see if I can fix that up sometime soon.

The paws are what makes me start speaking in high-pitched baby-talk around rodents. They're just so cute. How little they are, and when they hold their food. Just adorable.

omg...that looks like the rat I had as a kid - her name was thumbelina - and then, two years after I got her, she died of cancer and my mom couldn't bare to get anymore rats. T_T
I love this though, it brings back fond memories.

Ohhhh. How sad. I love rats. They make wonderful pets, but you do have to be aware when you get attached to one that they really don't live very long. Not like a dog or cat.

phoenixdown In reply to KimiSchaller [2007-02-09 08:48:35 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, well I guess that's why my mom just can't handle furry things with short lives. She gets very attached and then the inevitable conclusion is devastating. That's why we now have a cat and a dog...I don't know what she'll do if my dog dies.
